Does any one can give an idea how heavy should be the downrigger weight fishing for kokanee. Thanks a lot !

Hey Skifish,

I think Cannon downriggers are rated up to 10 pounds and Scotty's are rated up to 15 pounds. The heavier the weight the more vertical the wire and the closer the readout on the rigger is to the correct depth.

I have Cannon Mag 20 DT's and I use an 8 pound coated ball w/ a fin to stabilize it.

Hope this helps.

I'd advise going with either 8 or 10lb for kokanee depths. I use 8lb with Scotty manual downriggers and even with the added resistance of ball trolls the blow-back isn't an issue.

About the deepest I fish is 60'. I have an 8lb and 4.5lb weight. I get bit equally using these 2 different weights. I have a bit of blowback on the lighter rigger but again not deep water fishing.

I notice far less blowback in late season trolling higher speed trolling with the new braided DR line. Helps make turning easier with 2 balls and 4 poles out deep.

I now use 6lb finned balls for deep late koke fishing and have no more blow back than the 12lb or 15lb salmon balls did on wire cable.
