Paul has told me before about 20-40 take-downs a day on steelhead. I thought that must be a inflated number. And then he and my brother talked in Jan-Feb, and it was game over for my bro. Shortly after our trip in Feb. I began getting phone calls from my brother. He's telling me we should take our Dad, because who's know's how long until he wont be able to get around. So I make a date with Paul for July 8th. We get on anchor and it does not take long, and my youngest son lands his first steelhead. Nice fish, but one to many fins. Grandpa goes next and get's the fist one in the boat, and the smallest, we did give him crap for that!
We all wanted my kid to tag his first steelhead, so he got the go again.
My brother and I also caught a keeper, except I forgot to have someone take my pic.
And if you look at the fish.........sea lice
Group pic., minus one guide and another guy who may wish to be anonymous????
So now what really happened:
29 take downs
10 hookups
8 fish to the boat
5 fish taken home
I saw some fish absolutely hammer some baits!!! The rod would be picked up and fish on or sometimes nothing? Some would just tap, tap, tap and fish on or nothing. But my favorite was the plug bites! They were all violent!!!!!! Absolutely buried!!!!!
We all missed and gave each other crap about every one!!! We all had fun and hope to do it again. Most important to me was to have my Dad, me, and my son on the same boat. 3 generations fishing together! Something I never got to do with my grandfather.
