I set out to add some trailer steps so that I didn't have to use the crank handle to crawl in and out of the bow of my boat. With the help of some friends with contacts and skills, I have a beautiful set of steps that makes getting in and out of the boat much easier.

Dave, nice work. Did you make this out of Aluminum? It looks like Aluminum? I think I will do this to my trailer, fishing by myself it is getting harder to get up and down from the boat to launch it. I ran in to that problem when I fished alone at Blue Mesa this month.
It is a bitch getting old, it’s not for sissy’s, but it is possible to make it a little easyer.

The base plate and riser post are standard steel that got powder coated. The steps are aluminum and I ordered them from Overton’s. They were $95, which was far and away cheaper than anything else out there advertised as boat trailer steps.

Very nice finished product! Since I launch alone I simply tie off to the dock to put the boat in the water with long lines and then walk it back to the end of the ramp dock, tie off and go park. That is a nice set up for a two person launch but my jet boat front is so long it wouldn't accommodate that step onto the bow. Marina rentals get pissed when they see my bow feet onto their dock as compared to an outboard boat. thumbsup
At home or in the campground, I am in and out of the boat 100’s of times a season so that was the primary reason that I added the steps. At the launch ramp, Karen backs the trailer down and I drive the boat on. The steps then help me latch the winch and safety chain.
Most of us have swim steps attached to the boat for easy entrance and exit. It becomes even more important the older you get that you can reboard your boat should you fall over. I would be more worried about falling off of those steps if I was planning on using them as frequently as you suggest. Not much to hold onto up there, especially when climbing down!
