Recently picked up some R & K Minne Hoochies they are attached with trebles. I'm going to take off the Trebles and putting on two #4 (red) Sickle's in tandom. Has anyone had luck with the trebles/for my baits I don't like treble Hooks and been unable to find Minnies with the Hooks I want they are usually to small or just single hooks. My R&K last year got a little hot in the boat and melted/fused together. I've been able to use a needle and rethread them with 12# floricarbon leader (Pline)

trebles or single hook

I prefer a single hook or tandem singles so I can more easily release fish I don't want to keep. I've had days on Lucky Peak where I would have gotten off the water in less than an hour if I hadn't released some fish. I resort to trebles when I can't keep most of the fish on all the way to the boat. And I still lose a few. Kokanee really don't like boats or nets.

I only started using R&K's mini this year, so far I think the hook up rate is better with two singles than the Treble, but my I haven't had them in the water long enough to give it a fair chance for comparison, it depends on how they are biting, last week end I had a lot of hard take downs but but only 2 in the boat, other times its just the opposite. I want to see how they work when they are set up with two singles.

MrMike:

According to R&K its not the sun that melted your hoochie, the packaging now says to make sure to slide the body up away from the beads when you are storing them, there is a chemical reaction that happens when the two are in contact for long periods of time.

Ken's Custom Tackle and Mag Tackle both carry great minis with tandem #4's. R&K needs to buy better quality beads or bodies if they are having melting problems. R&K should know better than that.

I never use a treble for kokes. Most think that having 3 barbs will hold the kokes better but from what I've seen & believe it gives the fish more leverage and land less fish, IMO...
As for R&K, I don't use them but they did start using the sickle hook a few years back. I've been using the Matzou sickle hooks, #6 tandem on spinners and small hootchies & RGT's and tandem #4 on my bigger hootchies & Apex style lures for 4 years now. I buy them in bulk now. My thoughts are this is the way to go. More hookups and less fish lost.

I used to use sickle hooks but have switched back to dropshot. Running side by side on two downriggers, I was suffering early releasees 2 to 1 on the sickle hooks.2cents

One thing I've noticed since switching to sickle hooks is I end up with a lot of hooks in my fingers. These things are sharp!! I think they must have a more open gap than a standard or drop shot hook. The sickles really grab whatever they are around.
