Always owned two engines and am downsizing. Never used a trolling plate and am thinking about a 50hp maybe E-TEC with a plate. Would this really be workabe for a full day of trolling?

The short answer is, "yes." However, my long answer would be to start with a plate and save your money for a bow mount electric. There will be days when you might use both but on the calm days where you use the electric, you can't beat the quiet and control.

I've fished with a 4 stroke 50 hp and ez troll plate for 11 years and it works well but I'd agree that when it's really windy a bow mount electric motor would be a big help.
