Wallowa Lake for Easter, Pics added.

Sherry and I made another trip to Wallowa Lake for Easter. We stayed for 5 days and got to fish three of those days. The first day we started fishing at 8am and the boat had 5 inches of snow covering it. We only managed 3 fish until Sherry got too cold and we headed to the boat launch. I had to shovel off the boat launch since it had 6" of snow on it and as much as the vehicle slipped when I pulled out with the trailer I knew that pulling out the boat would be impossible. So it took 30 min. to get the boat loaded and pull up the ramp. The strange thing is I saw the snow plow in the parking lot make a path in front of the ramp but did not bother to plow out the ramp. The second day of fishing we caught 13 fish with the biggest being 16" caught by my wife who was very happy. On Saturday we did our Easter dinner and spent the day visiting with family. On Sunday our last day of fishing we caught 12 fish with the largest measuring 18" caught by yours truly and disappointing the wife. The limit in Wallowa Lake is 5 fish 12" and over and 5 fish under twelve. When we got our 5 each 12" and over we stopped fishing. All fish were caught in the water depth of 125' to 150' with one crank off the bottom. The bait used was purchased at Paul's Sports Coral in Joseph which included corn soaked in Procure shrimp scent. We also purchased the 2oz P-line jigs there also. To fish these depths you definitely needed the 1.5oz to 2oz jigs to get the job done. I will post pictures when I can get them off my wife's camera.

As you can see it is still snowing. We were having a good time under the cover of the boat top with the heater. Fishing was slow that day with only three fish.

I did not troll at all but I did see fish break the surface twice. Schools were at 40ft and on the bottom mostly on the bottom. Those bottom schools were 20ft deep on the sonar at times. Last year they were 40ft deep. I suspect there are less fish this year. There were two boats that I think were trolling for a short while only then they left the lake. The rest of the boaters jiged in the same area as we did. The bite for us was never agressive.

we are going at the end of June can anyone tell me what depth I might need to be fishing at? I do not have down riggers....

My best guess would be 20 to 40ft. Check your fish finder when you are there. turn the gain up to see where the thermocline is and fish in that depth range.
