Warm Lake kokanee??

I noticed on the Id. F & G website that they have planted a large number of kokes the past couple of years. Has anyone targeted them this year or had any success? Any info appreciated. Mike

I fished catch and release on Warm Lake on Aug 1. I boated 36 rainbows and 3 kokanee. I was able to release all of them, so I could fish longer. Hard to keep the rainbows off the kokanee lures. I would have had to quit in about a half hour if I'd been keeping the fish. And that was with just a single line out. A great catch rate, but I'll admit I was disappointed. I, too, was looking for the kokanee.

Thanks for the info. Sorry you didn't find more kokes, but 40 fish of any kind is a good day! Mike

You are right about it being a very good day. Weather was nice, wind was enough to keep a ripple on the water, skiers were considerate, my wife picked some huckleberries, and the fish were cooperative. The three kokanee were a little bigger than typical for Warm Lake. I released them to spawn to help the population a bit. I didn't mean to sound like I was complaining. The disappointment came from my taste buds. They were anticipating some small pan fried kokanee that have been typical for Warm Lake. Remember, work is for people who don't know how to fish!

It's worth the drive to Deadwood for Chinook. fished 2 days last week and landed 6 each day. largest was 25 inches and 10lbs others were 7 to 8 pounds. saw you post awhile back about Deadwood.
