I want to install my Remote Troll on my Starcraft but I can't get to the inside of the transom to put the backing plates in without removing the rear deck. Does it matter what side I mount the unit on? Fuel tank is in the floor and batteries are in the center front and back.

mount it on the passanger side of the boat, if your by yourself it is a good counter weight and its easyer for the passanger to adjust where they sit in your boat then the driver for weight distripution

I was kind of planning on doing just that, the problem is that I don't have access to that side of the transom unless I remove the entire rear decktop.

Do you have a ladder on the port side? I mounted my kicker on the starboard side because that is the side all the cables and fuel lines are on. This leaves the other side open for the swim ladder.

It hasn't on mine. My suspicion is that weight in the back has less side to side affect. If I had 150 lbs on my side at mid boat I bet there would be some balance issues but nothing in the back.

Well I got looking at it again and started looking the screws that hold down the deck . Finally figured out that they were sunk into the wood, make it hard to locate them so I decided to remove the carpet to find them. The carpet was pretty thin and worn anyway. Now I have access to the area that I wanted for mounting my Remote troll unit.
