While cruising fishing video's I came across this one from Macks Lures at Wallowa lake. Stop the video at :50 and look at the lure. It looks to me like a double wedding ring with sometype of blade in the middle, then something orange at the front end, maybe another blade. Has anyone seen this before? Please don't tell me it has been out for years and I am just now catching up.

I can't tell what exactly that lure is but I can see the double D dodger and where the line is attached to it!thumbsup

At :10 there's a good shot of the dodger...looks like their useing flashlites in front of it. After looking at the lure again it appears to be some sort of custom made spinner with possibly a smiley blade and regular blade incorperated.

looks to me like they doubled up on two sets of wedding ring beads separated by a smiley blade and a regular blade of some kind on top.

Have you tried the Double D dodger yet ? Looks like something to try this spring!

Sure looks like they just did some customizing in the wedding rings. I'll bet it was just a smile blade in front...second guess was a spin-n-glo but that would not make sense since they are not sold by Mack's. You can find those new dodgers in action here from the AnglerWest Episode on Stampede reservoir for the Kokanee Power derby....

I couldn't see my boat in the background when Vance was being filmed but it was out there somewhere as we passed each other several times that day. A few of us got to peek at the box of goodies Vance was going to use derby day form Mack's as he reps for them. It is an interesting dodger with some variability in its settings and I'm sure I'll have to own a few because one can never have enough dodgers! :)

It looks like two wedding rings stacked on top of each other with something in between and a smilie blade on top.

That's kind of what I thought, and that is the scary part. Knowing koke fisherman like I do, if two wedding rings are good, 3 or 4 or even would be better. I can see posts coming with wedding rings longer than a ford fender rig.101no101

Now that you mention it ... 101idea101
Last season I ran into a guy at the dock up at Paulina that had his poles rigged up with custom homemade wedding ring spinners that were around 6" long. Said he knocks em dead with them. The lures had around 4 colorado blades with beads inbetween...looked like a miniature lake troll.

Wedding rings

Talking about wedding rings. Have any of you fished very much with Mack's wedding rings that are two diffrent colors? And do you like a blade infront or just the wedding ring without a blade?101chromefish101101chromefish101

I make my own and always use a blade.

I think the blade serves three purposes. One, it provides vibration that may attract fish. Second, especially when used with bright or glow beads, it produces a strobe like effect as it spins around the beads, hiding the beads and then revealing the beads.

If I use two colors of beads I alternate them, such as white/black/white, etc. I feel this give more contrast than haing one color bead in the front half and another color in the back half, and I use all the same size beads.

Third, the color of the blade is also a factor. I tend to use more color blades that glow or have uv tape applied. If I use a colored blade I try to match one of the bead colors as closely as possible.

Not saying this is the right way, just my way. Your mileage may vary...

The first couple years I got into koke fishing I made alot of wedding ring type spinners. I used indiana, colorado, dakota, willow leaf, spin-n-glows, and smile blades. I"ve had good success useing single beads instead of stack beads...gives the lure more movement and alternate the beads between light and dark for contrast. I still use the spinners once in a while but they aren't my go to lure anymore.

Fish don't care who made the spinner, nor really even its design. IMHO they are responding to color. Last year at Odell during the derby a bright green assassin seemed to be popular with the kokes. I only had one assassin in that color combo, but did have beads and blades that matched the color. Made up two of my own spinners and they were just as hot as the assassin, which is good because I lost the assassin when my grandson hooked up with a good size fish with lots of spunk. I forgot to back the drag off after release from the clip, lost fish and lure at the boat, line broke between the dodger and the lure.

Lures?

Hey, thanks for the response. I guess that after reading what has been said, we had better be ready to "match the hatch" as it were. Sounds like the main thing is to be prepared for what gets them excited.101chromefish101101chromefish101
