Which boat would you buy?

The picture from the boat show wasn't great so here is a link to the dealers website. By the way, Ben is no longer there. I ended up working with Jim. Good guy to deal with. Much better deal this time.

Bogey, We ended up working out a trade. I haven't removed it from the board in case someone shows interest in the next few days. I would still rather give someone a chance at a boat for wholesale prices before giving it to the dealer.

I hear you on "giving it away", but it's clean, quick and you don't have to deal with Craigslist Bozo's!! By the way, what a pretty frigging boat!!!!

Nicely done hope you got the red one/know you have to get the stink off it and a dent.

No dents! I got one on my old boat and it was right where I could see it in the side mirror when I was towing it. That thing drives me crazy. Gonna be buffing it out tomorrow when I get it ready for the dealer.

I am sure I will never scratch the new one :)

"De-rigging" the old boat today... It is actually a sad process. Lot's of good trips in this boat. She has been very forgiving during the learning process and always got me home. Not to mention (ok I will) she has produced tons of limits of Kokanee and salmon for me and my fishing buddy.

Feels like loading up your girlfriends stuff in boxes right before you throw her out, except this is sad... Ha!

So my brain is over thinking electronics today. I am going to put my one year old Humminbird 1198si on the new boat. When we discussed putting the bow trolling motor on I specified the I-Pilot LINK. I know it will work with the 1198 no problem. The thing that I am stuck on is whether the TR-1 for the kicker will work with the 1198 or if I need a second GPS/FF? THe 1198 has an ethernet but doesn't specify the NMAE 0183 connection. I haven't used a TR-1 (other than through a remote on someone else's boat). WHat will I need to get all of the features out of it?

Does someone have a specific set-up for the TR-1 that they really like? Any insight would be appreciated. Searches didn't answer that for me.

as far as I have seen the cannon stuff has there own little network in there base units it's not until you step up to the ION do you get the 0183 and 2000 or the ONIX but I think it is only nema 2000. pretty much every one else uses the standard nema network. tr-1 and garmin are the same company and they work well togather and that is what I use for a chart plotter (I use furuno for a dedicated fishfinder) but lowrance , raymarine, and furuno chart plotters with the nema 0183 will work fine (just make sure they have the lake maps of the ones you fish). the tr-1 will do all the basic fuctions but without the chart plotter you wont be able to go to way points or follow your way back and like I have said before with out being able to program way points and just pushing go you will always be going north ( lets say) but if there is a side wind(say west) you will never be able to go to that spot (unless you keep correcting for it) because you will be blown west of it, even though you will always be going north. with programing it into the chart plotter no mater the wind it will always be correcting to go to the 'spot' you picked. you can save the troll patterns and repeat them if them were productive or avoid them if it was shallow or other problems. dfly
if you are going to the boat show all those guys will be there and you can ask questions and look at the maps and software.

Dfly, Thanks for the response. I would like the option of using the chart plotter to track routes. I fish a lot of the same areas over and over. I have an HDS-5 now but was going to let it go with the boat when it gets traded in. I can't say I am overly excited about it.

I am eyeballing the Lowrance Elite 7 to use for basic chart plotting and running the Tr-1. Then I would use the Humminbird 1198si to control the electric troller and for down imaging and side imaging. I may look a little closer at the Garmin plotters but I haven't had much experience with them.

I may go to the sportsman show this weekend in Portland but that is quite a hump from Bellingham. I will let you know what I decide to connect to. There may be others contemplating the same thing. IF anyone else has a TR-1 hooked up to a FF/plotter I would be interested to hear how it is working out.

which ever you choose make sure it supports the lakes you are going to fish so you don't just gut a yellow area where the lake is supposed to be. and it can be updated. dfly

The dealer responded to an e-mail saying it had to be a Garmin. I think that was the lazy answer and not the correct one. I may venture to the Sportsman show in Portland this weekend and talk to someone that knows electronics better. Can't decide if it is worth a 4 hour drive though. I guess I could ease the pain by picking up some other toys while I am there. Certainly not cost effective but I guess we aren't exactly the cost effective bunch. I'd say that fish is going for about $250 a pound at my house right now...

mharri333 the tr-I guy will be there with his little boat setup along with the other electronics this is the best time to have every one in one place. so have your questions written down ( I have a note pad so I don't forget plus I can write down other info) I will be there sat. for me this is the best show to keep up on the latest innovation's and talk to guys that have been there done that to help make you a better and more informed fisherman dfly

Well, looks like I am going to the Sportsman show tomorrow morning... It wasn't that hard to talk myself into I guess.

Looks like that price per pound is subject to change (rapidly)...

Just bought a new Skeeter MX 1825. Have only had it on the water twice so far but am very happy with the decision. I looked at all of the aluminum boats at first but could not find a boat that had even close to the storage and virtually none of it was lockable. Any glass boat will ride better in rough water, track better in cross winds and IMO look better. What surprised me was how close in price a glass boat is to alum. Not much difference.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

Gotta snag in the boat build...

The EFI Suzuki kicker finally came in. Garmin does not make an adapter for the TR1. Dealer got the kit for the latest year model "or newer" Suzuki but it is different. They called Garmin. No fix. Could be several months until they even make one.

Choices are to go with the carbureted last year model with TR1 or the EFI and no TR1.

I have to say I am a little ticked. Boat is sitting in the bay waiting to get completed. I guess I am going to have to go with a 2013 and Tr1. I really wanted the EFI.

I don't want to do a tie bar and hope the forward controls are sensitive enough...

Bummer.

TR-1 guys are appaulding you but I fish just fine without one. The pain and anquish I've had with carburated kickers would have driven me right to the EFI and waiting a year if that's what it takes to get a functioning TR-1.

that's to bad. tr-1 needs to update there format and make it more user friendly ( dare I say like minn-kota and hummingbird ) especially with the new electronic engs and interfaces coming out. now the carbed
suzi is a good eng. plus it's not to late to go Yamaha thumbsup. dfly

I bet Garmin is working on updates like the NMEA 2000 connections as well as the new EFI's. Otherwise they will be left behind. I know how much I like the I Pilot. I would never go without it.

I really want the TR1 this time. Enough to deal with a carb... Not happy but that is what it is going to take. I talked to them about switching everything over to Yamaha but it was way more expensive. The boat was already set up for the Suzi. Putting the bigger Suzi wasn't a big deal. Changing brands at this point is too costly.

Gonna have to suck it up I guess...
