Hey,

I know I must be the only one in the U.S. who doesn't know, but what in the hell is a hoochie? I have tried looking it up and saw several different things, but if I was to add this item, what color, size, brand, etc... would be a safe all around lure to add to what I've always used - LOL, wedding rings! Been fishing for 45 years for kok's; in the beginning it was pop gear (YUCK) and wedding rings, last few years it's been DR, dodger and yup, wedding rings!

Thanks!

Check out Kokaneetackle.com and look at their squid section. That will be a good place to start, and they are a sponsor of this site..

hoochie is a squid looking tube of many different colors. Go to google click on image and type in hoochie lure. (Make sure to add the lure part or you will get a lot of the other kind of hoochie).

The latest fad is micro or mini hoochies. They are smaller and thinner than regular hoochies. I would recommend that you stay in the 1 1/2" to 2" range.

Be advised no such thing as a dumps question. That how we all learn by asking question.

I'd ask where are you fishing? I'm just curious. And I would also ask why cange? If it aint broke don't fix it! Most of us up here use 1.5" mini squid. Depends where you live as to where you can get them. And some of us rig them up different. Like DB rig's his different than I do and we both catch fish. And not a dumb question. The only dumb one is the one you don't ask.

Thanks very much! I saw the "squid" lures when looking up hoochie, but I'm thinking to myself, why do they call it a squid if it's a hoochie and figured I was missing something!

The size is also helpful, since it's something I've never tried before.

I'm fishing various lakes in Eastern Washington and LOL, ya, I know that saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", but hey, I think most can relate to BUYING more crap whether were really need it or not, it's if we "think" we need it...

And yes, I've already purchased a few things from a site sponor here and will continue.

Thanks!

I'm the same have more crap than I need, DB is way worse! Some guys run the squid short 8"-12" with heavy-er leader and the dodger gives it action. I don't do that tho. I use a 15" leader and use spinner blade in front of the squid. It works ok.

OK, seeing the smiley face afterwards, I'm not sure if you're serious or not? LOL, with my luck I'll go up to the check out stand and ask for a hoochie mama and get slapped!!!

Another question, do you tip a hoochie with anything, or does it stand alone so to speak?

Thanks.

Conventional approach is to tip anything you are using for Kokes with scented corn (where legal) or PowerBait Maggots.

Dont forget to squirt your hoochie with some kokanee smelly jelly. Once you have a slathered stink on your hoochie tipped with maggots, your ready for some fish. Did this just get weird?101whocares101

Chris, have you found that the scent gels/oils destroy the hoochie? It seems like the tentacles get all sticky and the colors get yucky when I put the goop on the hoochie so I just stick to the maggots/corn with plastics.

Yes, it does break down the die and changes the silicon's elasticity a bit. Once I spilled a bottle of shrimp oil in my neoprene pouch on my waders....101facepalm101 it created a film on the neoprene after it bleed through! and broke down the liner inside the pocket! weird stuff.

I like to apply my scent to my dodger, add the bait to my hooks and then just rub my bait on the scent that I applied to the dodger. This keeps all the foreign material from destroying my hoochies/plastics. Makes for a much easier clean up also.

Be sure to shorten your leaders up as well. Most fish theirs 8 to 12 inches behind the dodger if there is no blade in front.
