My buddy and I decided to go where no one else has been willing to post from and see what the 2014 Koke season might have to offer at Berryessa. We had lines in the water a little after 7:00 a.m. and worked the eastshore above Ranch House for a couple hours for 1 small Koke on a pink tube. We eventually worked our way across to the big island and worked that for a while and found no takers. We decided to work back to the eastside and on our way across the channel we hook up a triple and land 2 of them. At this point, I'm thinking that even though it is early, these are not the typical Kokes we've caught the last few years at Berryessa. These fish are from 12" - 13.5". At the end of the day we were about to reel them up and found we were dragging another 12" Koke for #4. What I thought was truly amazing about the day was not one single Rainbow to be had. In fact, the sonar screen was blank pretty much all day long. I'm left really wondering what Berryessa will have to offer us this year.
It was a nice day to share with some friends on the water and get the first rosey face from the sun for the season. And as always, the food cooked while on the water was great. I'll probably give them a few more weeks to grow and get a little more active.
