    prediv=ctions for the season

    Dorado, it was dirty.. around 1 foot visibility... the whole lake was that way. There was a slight mud line in the water, but it was a temperature thing. It went from 39 to 41 ish. The break was from this sucks to this really sucks let's go home !!! They are letting a lot of water out, over 5000...

    prediv=ctions for the season

    I predict the lake will look like coffee for prime time May / June fishing. It is already off color but the fishing was great. There is so much snow that hasn't even begun to melt yet. Fontenelle reservior which feeds the Gorge was muddy from end to end last Saturday. They are releasing huge...

    Some thoughts on C&R of kokanee salmon

    I think the reason the Kokanee fishing is so good on the Gorge is because of the 3 fish limit. Even though it is a put and take fisherie, there is a natural spawn that keeps populations at this level. That lake is the best Kokanee lake in the country and has been for years. Let's not screw it up...

    This Weekend 6/9-

    Is it the derby weekend ??? Damn. Are there as many boats as there were for the previous one ?? This was going to be my first trip down this year also. I'm just not that into combat fishing !!

    New Elctronics on the boat

    I just bought a Humminbird Helix 10 and I don't like it. You can't zoom the sonar screen. You have to go to a different page !! So you can't split chart and zoomed in sonar. This is useless. Also I can't see my downrigger balls without adjusting the Ping speed to 3, can't see my jig unless I...

    What. Downrigger release are you using?

    I used to run the white offshore tackle ones...light tension. Now I'm using the small Scotty releases and I really like them. I run 6 lb downrigger balls and use very light koke rods. I found that when the fish don't release the line from the release, and it have to grab the rod and pop it, I...

    FG Fish finder settings? (humminbird 999)

    I think humminbird fishfinders are not as good as Lowrance. Never had this problem with my HDS 7.

    FG Fish finder settings? (humminbird 999)

    I just purchased a humminbird helix 10 and I have to say I am disappointed with it. I also have a hard time seeing my downrigger balls or my jig when I'm jigging for lake trout. The zoom feature sucks. You cannot zoom the sonar screen by itself. You have to go to another page, and when you zoom...

    Trolling advice

    Don, I would not put any scents on my gear. The stuff may or may not help you catch fish, but it will get all over your dodgers, squids and everything else. It is hard to remove. I have thrown out my gear after using that crap. There are days, especially in June where anything you throw down...

    Reports

    It doesn't really matter if you release it carefully. The change in water temperature causes them to go into shock. Remember , it's 50 degree water 60 feet down, you bring them into 70 degree surface temp, then into 85 degree air temp. All not good for cold blooded fish that don't do well being...

    Annual Migration

    The internet can be a great source of information, it can also bring a crowd to your favorite fishing spot. There are rivers here in Wyoming that used to be relatively un crowded, thanks to the internet those places always have fishermen, all day, everyday. I was warned about this years ago from...

    First time fishing Flaming Gorge

    I know the 3 fish limit sounds restrictive but that limit is why Flaming Gorge is the best Kokanee fishery in the west if not the USA. It has been unusually slow lately but there are times when it's hard to keep lures in the water. Doubles and triples all day on 3 lb fish !! And the size of the...

    Building a Planer Board Mast

    Don't be afraid to use lead core off the board. I know a guy that does really well on kokes that way, especially when they get boat shy

    Building a Planer Board Mast

    They look good ! I made mine out of a piece of galvanized electrical conduit. It fits in my front seat hole on my Crestliner. I mounted a hardware store pulley on a spring at the top like you did. I mounted the reel... Like the one you bought, to the mast with hose clamps. I like mine because I...

    New kokanee

    Well I didn't catch any records but the fishing was good at Buckboard. The fish are all over the water column, we caught them from 10 feet to 40 feet down. The size of the fish was all over the place also. We caught 20 inchers and 6 inchers ! Pink was the ticket, caught some on spoons. We landed...

    New kokanee

    I heard the same thing so I'm going out tomorrow to break it again. I'll be in a white and silver Crestliner . I will scream real loud when I catch him so you'll know it's me !!!

    The year in review

    I made it down 3 times this summer, late June and twice in August. I thought the fishing was great for all three trips. There seemed to be a lot of 3.5 to 4 lb fish around. I did land one that was just under 5. Even the rainbows seemed big this year. Every time down there is different, some days...
