Hello fellow anglers,

We have been winter fishing on lake Roosevelt in Eastern Washington and doing very well on the big trout. My TM speed control for the Yamaha T8 died last Saturday. Have any of you tried the iTroll with the "Hunt" mode? Looks very interesting.

Thanks for your input - Alan

Do you know what part died? The motor is a $10 replacement. If it was the control unit, replacement is probably warranted but could be a very simple and inexpensive fix. When I bought my troll master, I bought extra motors at a hobby shop just to be covered in case something happened while I was on the water.

Thanks Dave,
I did remove the servo and take it to the hobby shop for testing; it was good. The control unit lights up; just doesn't work. It was a used unit when I got it so who knows how old it is. Definitely got my $75 out of it. Money....money............we can fix anything!

I don't know if Troll Master is even around anymore but I had my controller lose programming once before. I sent the controller back to get re-programed and I was back in business.

I was on Roosevelt yesterday again and it has changed a lot since last weekend. The level dropped a good 4-5 feet and the launches are really iced up but fishing is still good. Back to the subject, apparently you like the speed control enough to buy another? https://www.walleyecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=207335
I'm still deciding if they are worth the 3-4 hundred bucks.

Hi Clawman,
I have had the throttle control since installing the Yamaha T8 about a year and a half ago. I have fished countless hours on the Columbia at the mouth of the Deschutes and the Hanford reach. Constant throttle changes are necessary when trolling in the wind and back-trolling in the high current at the Reach. When trolling trout or kokanee finite throttle adjustments are a must to dial in the speed desired.

All of that said I fished last Saturday without it since it broke. There was wind and it was a challenge! Besides I love the full top and heater with all of the steering and kicker throttle up front with the heater in the winter!! The iTroll will work with my current servo assembly (mine has been replaced with the good one like iTroll uses) so I don't have to buy that. The hunt mode allows you to try it for 50 on/off cycles of the unit, which is about a years fishing for many people. The cost is then $100 for Hunt if you want to keep using the OPTIONAL feature.

The Answer to the question "Is it worth it?" YES, YES, YES...can't live without it!! thumbsup

I went for the itroll,I traded in the TM no regrets. Much higher quality and the hunt mode is awesome. I just sent it in for a free software upgrade,Joel added the ability to store 4 hunt programs and a few other features. I recommend it.

I have the tr-1 and wouldn't be without because it also controls the steering but the hunt feature of the itroll is something I wish the tr-1 had. I can manually do it with my cordless pendent or program s-turns, to some what mimic it. but the hunt feature would be a must have if I was going that route. but a cordless remote option like the tr-1 would be nice so you don't have a cord to drag around and trip over unless you permanently mount it some where. dfly

Clawman,
That brass barrel has a hole on the top and the bottom. Try the bottom hole.

SuperD;
Hey, thanks for the input. It does work. There is a lot of flex in the rod from the servo to the carb control. I've played around with it long enough for my wife to accuse me of having an affair and the best I can get it is the throttle first moves at 13.5 % and opens up about 1/2 of full at 100%.
Is this typical?

Hi clawman, I just ordered an iTroll to replace the broken control I have been using. Have you talked with Joel at iTroll about the problem? It doesn't seem "typical" to me.

While mounting the servo push rod on the bottom of the brass barrel connected to the carb arm does work it does not travel as well as top mounting. Joel stepped in and did a lot to get different mounting hardware to make it work as designed. THANK YOU Joel!!
Awesome service!

Glad you got it fixed. I understand the newest motor has some changes that Joel had to work through to make it work....another part number for him! thumbsup
