Apex rigging?

Do you guys usually run an Apex or similar type lure all alone or do you run a dodger in front of it? Been wanting to try one for some time, but want to make sure I have a good set up before I drag one for hours.

1) Change the factory leader out for a lighter line
2) Make leader approx. 20"
3) Use a dodger

I agree with SuperD on redoing the leader with lighter line and a better hook or hooks. I run mine behind a dodger or 10' or so behind my ball trolls. Go light on the corn (probably 2 piece max on 1 hook only) so it can swing. I seem to get my biggest fish on Apex's and did really well with them this year.
