I have a 14 foot lund ssv and i was wondering whats the best rigger to get. I need something easy to set-up and mount because i have no ledge on the boat. i have to clamp on, or mount to the seat. i have a cannon mini troll, but its too hard to work. the lake troll looks good, not sure how to mount it. do you transom, or off the side. a rigger with a rod holder would be sweet, the mini troll is tough on a small boat.thanks for any help

I use the mini-troll out of my little pelican bayou with good success, not sure what kind of problem you are experiencing. I have a berklely rod holder that I put the downrigger pole in - all within easy reach of my seat. I am looking at getting another rigger, probably a lake troll. Cannon makes a clamp on mount I was going to try - rigger bolts to the clamp, clamp attaches to the gunnel. If I go that route I'll probably attach a safety strap the rigger (cat leashes work great) just to make sure I don't lose the whole set up over the side. I'd be interested to know what you come up with and how it works.

if you go manual I would stick to the Cannons because of the way they rotate and ease of use. The easy troll has a nice line counter and quicker retrieve. I got one and like it. I also have a mini mag and like it too, but its slower then other electric DRs.

I have a 14 ft Klamath so similar to yours. Where ever u mount them make them accessable while sitting. U will thank yourself. Every boat is different and sometimes you have to get a little creative to mount them. Remember you will get them hung up at some time so make sure the mounts are very solid. I have a steering wheel and so both fisherman sit on the middle bench facing back. I got both riggers mounted half way between the middle and back benches. I installed a SS pipe between the benches on both sides as anchor points for the mounts. The outside side of the mounts are bolted to the edges of the hull.

Good luck.

the mini troll is tough to handle. the lake troll has a controlled descent, that should work good. cranking the mini troll up and down isn't too easy.i'll mount the lake troll to the gunwale with a clamp. i'd go off the transom but its an awkward setup. just opposite my seat is just right, like old school said.
