Newbie here......Been fishing for about 55 yrs presently living in Kelowna BC

Some real nice Kokanee fishing here in BC...I fish Kalamalka and Okanagan Lakes for them and the mighty Shuswap Lake system.

We use mainly smaller gang trolls trailing wedding bands tipped with maggot, worm, and/or mealworms and do quite well.

I'm reading here that shoepeg corn is popular in the US and will be giving that a try fairly soon..... if I can just find a supermarket that sells it, no luck so far...does yellow corn not work as well ?

I don't think that there is anything that won't work if covered in the right scent. The theory or the myth behind shoepeg corn is that it is naturally very sweet. If I couldn't find shoepeg corn either canned or frozen, I'd look for either white corn or something labeled as sweet corn.

Welcome Robbo... looking foward to some reports from up North! If you can't find Shoepeg locally get it by the case on amazon. thumbsup

One of our best kokanee fisheries is Wood Lake Winfield BC catching two and three pounders was a regular event there, then alas, a combination of problems in recent years has led to a decline in stocks which led to the imposition of modified regs in 2013

"Last year (Wood Lake) lake conditions were too warm for the kokanee. High levels of algae sank to the bottom and used up much of the oxygen that the kokanee needed, resulting in significant fish kill. This season lake temperatures have been more suitable, resulting in better fishing. But numbers remain down and the fishery is in a constant state of flux. And that has fisheries biologists working hard to keep the Wood Lake fishery intact and healthy."
