Went up thurs(19 Aug) but trailer bearings & hub went out on one wheel. Managed to finally fix problem and hit the water on friday afternoon. Koke fishing very slow, manage to catch some small dinks out of Lucerne, released. Pulled boat to Buckboard and launched from there. Same results with small dinks. Had one nice red on but lost that one about 30ft behind boat. Tried everything with tackle but didn't find anything worth consistant enough to mention. Headin' back up next weekend to bring camper back home. As usual I enjoyed my time this past summer at the Gorge but I'm done there for this season. Now I'm ready for some of the local action. I'll wait another 2wks to a month until weather cools off. Kids back in school and less skiiers.

My brother fished for his last time this season on Saturday out of Buckboard. He said it was very tough and they only picked up 2 kokes, 2 rainbows and 2 macks. He said very few people were having any success on the kokes.

Thanks for your posts and keeping us up to date on the fishing this season. I can't wait until you retire so we can have an update every week tooexcited

We got into Lucerne late Friday night and hit the water before sunrise on Saturday. Since we were getting good results at the pipeline 2 weeks ago that's where we started Saturday morning. I put a green squid behind a green flasher with a micro chip and lowered to 50' on the counter, speed 1.5 mph. Was setting up the second rod when the first one went off and was able to bring in a nice koke about 23" and around 4 lbs. We thought what a great start, this should be good. Well we worked the pipeline for another 4 hours and did not get another bite. I also set up two rods with blue squids and hyper plad dodgers and one rod with a green squid and a hyper plad dodger and ran stackers. I ran the green with hyper plad over the green with the flasher, I didn't want to pull that one since it had hooked up the nice 4 lb koke. I talked to a guy two weeks ago that was bringing in some nice ones with the micro chip flasher so I thought I would give it a try. I've read some cons to running a flasher especially with a micro chip, but thought what the heck might as well try it since the guy I had talked to did OK with it. On Sunday morning we decided to try the horse shoe area and actually fished the entrance to the canyon. It was almost a twin to the day before except I lowered the green squid with the micro flasher then set up a blue squid with a hyper plad dodger and lowered it. As soon as it was set it hooked up a nice 2 lb koke. well we fished all morning in this area and caught a small Mac and another 2 1/2 lb koke all on the blue squid with the hyper plad. Hooked up one more, I think it was a koke but we lost it before seeing it so can't say for sure. All in all it wasn't great but we did get a few nice kokes. We don't really have alot of experience with koke fishing but we are catching a few. My wife says I'm the only person after being blessed with a 4 lb koke that would complain because I only caught one, shame on me. Going to be camped at Lucerne over Labor Day for one last try and that will be it for this season.

Labor Day weekend is believe or not a good time at Lucerne. Boats get decked out with many different designs of lgihts. The Parade of Lights. I've been to about 4 of them and view it from the campgrounds as well as being on the water in Linwood Bay. After this contest is over, there is a spectacular fireworks show. If you view from on the water, be safe, there are also numerous boats out there as well and it gets really dark. A fun time for the family.

We also did our last trip of the season on Aug 14th & 15th out of Buckboard. It was slow all weekend with Saturday being the best day with 4 keeper kokes. Discovered something interesting that the silver dodgers which is the primary color I usually do the best produced nothing. We only caught kokes trolling with a red dodger and a white with green painted high lights dodgers. The orange squid was catching the bigger kokes.

Time to turn my fishing interests toward sturgeon fishing on the Snake and Elk hunting in the Utah.

Till next May (maybe April) have a safe time on the water and hope all your fishing trips are filled with family and fun!!
