Never heard of them before. Do they have life time warranties? And if they do, what do you think Cisco fishing systems life time will be?

The Cisco's appear to be well built with a price to match. I did not find any info on warranty. Won't be trading in my Scotties anytime soon as I have had them 20 plus years and they are still going strong. thumbsup

My mini mag quite working so I thought i would update but having a hard time deciding which new ones to go with

Plumber are you looking for manual, electric up gravity down, or electric up and down, short or extendable masts ? also do you want reg. or hi speed ? auto retrieve ? digital control ? price range ? that needs to be known before we can really help. warrantee is a key subject so if you have a problem you can get it fixed in a timely matter. cannon and scotty are big on the west coast, walker, big jon, and cisco are east coast/great lakes but are working there way west. dfly

electric up and down I would like something faster than a mini mag One minute thirty seven seconds to come up one hundred feet fixed mast auto retrieve I have talked to a few people about new cannons they said there is still problems with the auto retrieve

Plumber, what problems are others reporting about Cannon auto retrieve? It is a on/off switch. Not a lot to go wrong there.

they say if you want to bring it up say 10 feet they say it always comes all the way up
LOL! They don't know how to operate them then. The switch is pushed in the up position to retrieve. When the line comes up 10', the switch is briefly pushed into the down position to stop the retrieve. If the switch is only put back into the neutral position, the line will continue to come all the way to the top. It is a simple operation once you have done it a couple of times.

On my Cannons I have two mini electric I had some work done at Ollie Damons and they advised they were going to up graded the unit thats when they installed some new soft ware and I just hit the up botton they automatic stop/shut off as soon as the ball hits the surface. I just hit the up button and its fat city. As for them being slow I guess, but they have been very reliable for me some minor problems mainly human error getting my cables caught inside the drum and there electric cable hook ups to power being extremely brittle and were replaced.

I run 2 Mag 10's out the side and 2 Mag 5's out the back. I love everything about the Mag 5's as they are fast and with a short boom I don't need a cable retriever cord like on the Mag 10's. If one feels like the weight doesn't stop fast enough, one simply adds a non conductive link between the weight and the cable or a snubber.

You might take a look at the Scotty's before you make your purchase, they are the most reliable downrigger on the market, and have a life time warranty that they really stand behind. If you notice, most of the guide boats are using Scotty's. This year I spooled up with 150# Spectra Braid, and it is fantastic, very easy to handle with no danger of kinking, no more line hummmm, no more electric charge to repel the fish. Have not heard of anyone that has switched to braid that would ever go back to wire. With the Cannons the wire is the conductor that stops the ball when it comes out of the water, Spectra Braid is a non conductor and cannot be used. Just something to consider, good luck on your choice.

Plumber, what's the chances of you getting on a boat and trying a newer Cannon vs. a Scotty just to see how you like working with them? Downriggers are a lot of money to spend just on someone else's opinion. You wouldn't buy a car without test driving it first.

yes you have to use wire on the cannons to use the water line stop unless you go with the digi troll models where you can program your stop distance. the scottys are very dependable, they are what I started with, and still have two 2106s on the boat and other than cleaning and checking the clutch adj. each year I have never had any problems with them. the only thing I don't like is the beads ( I use chamberlains and run stackers you can't use them other than the 10' mark ) and there hi speed jerk when you start and stop, but a snubber helps.plus the scottys are cheaper. the only cannons I have owned are the digi troll 10s which are the other 2 on the boat and for performance and convenience they can't be beat but there build quality to me is lacking and only after I modified mine was I happy with them but they are quite spendy. as far as steel vs plastic line I have found it is the boat and how the downriggers are mounted that causes the hum, and a weight snubber will in most cases stops that. I proved that one day with a guy that had scottys and was complaining of the hum and swapped it to my boat and mount he couldn't believe the difference and no hum. all 4 of mine run the scotty 180 lb hp ss cable w/snubbers and are absolutely silent . I am a lot harder on my downriggers then most I purposely drag my weight and sometimes cable when fishing for macks and I don't think the plastic would take the abrasion and nicking that accurses but that is at the far end. you just need to pick the right tool for the job. like Dave said test drive them first . dfly

don't know anybody with scottys i already have cannon swivel mounts on my boat figured that would save a little money if I stayed with cannon's do the mag 5's jerk bad when you start and stop

I don't think they could come close to the 2106s jerk and I soften them with a snubber. if you have the older base and swivel I would reuse them over the new ones. and like you said you wanted power both ways and as much as I hate to say it that leaves out scotty. dfly

O.K Dragonfly/or who ever can answer this question my down rigger lines,or Cables do Hum after say I'm trolling a little faster like 1.5/1.7 MPH EXPLAIN THIS SNUBBER thing, are we talking Connect to the main cable to the Ball. At present I use plastic ties the type police hand cuff folks with. I use them to connect my cable to the ball to stop any type of and electric current to my Rods. I quess it work I catch fish and don't have any neg electrical current. but the way I understand this using a snubber will stop the humming on my steel cables/this must be a heavy snubber to hold up an 8# ball. Please explain
