Looking to get some down riggers hoping for some tips on what to buy. Fish Flaming Gorge for jokes and macs.

do you want to hand crank, manual down/power up or power up and down then if you want power up and down do you want to stop at water line or where ever you program it. then do you want to bottom trac? it a progression of options.dfly

that leaves out scotty, and the cannon digitroll 10. on the power up and down there is the water stop feature on a couple of makes but you have to hold the button to go down and up or you can use the programing and push and forget, you set where you want to stop which is the main difference between the digi-troll and the others I personally have 2 digi-troll 5s and 2 10s . dfly

I have never ran the jons there a few people that run them on here and I have not heard any thing bad I just never liked the design they look kind or primitive but functional to me and they didn't have the features I was looking for but that is just my opinion I know they are big back east. dfly

I run 2 Mag 5's and 2 Mag 10's as part of the everyday fishing set up. When I get extra guests, I even have room for a 3rd Mag 5. Using them as my rear downriggers, they serve me very well without having to use pull cords or lean dangerously outside the boat to put my line in the clip.

I use two mag 5's and they have been great. The speed at which they come up has not been a problem for me. Some people have a problem with the ball bouncing and pulling on the boom, but I solved that problem with a Scotty Trolling Snubber with Cannonball Snap. Which absorbs most of the shock as the ball come to a stop. It also keeps the ball right below the water, so it won't swing around. More than once the fast ball retrieve has allowed me to get the ball/cable up and out of the way of a crazy koke or other salmon.

I have used canons for years I have mag10hs right now and love them. have never desired the features that digi trolls have. so for me mag 5 or mag 10s fill the bill . never had a problem with the ball bouncing. just my opinion
