I've been using the search function but have not found the answers to all of my questions. I've never used DR's before so this is all new to me.

  • I have a set of Cannon 10HS's. On my boat I can mount them in the back corners or about 3' from aft. Which is better and why? Does it matter?
  • How do I know how much boom to put out and should the booms be at an angle or perpendicular to the boat?
  • I plan to fish the ocean as well so I have a set 15# pancakes, are these too heavy for kokes? Should I get a set of 10# ers?
  • One last question regarding the 10HS and the auto up...if I'm stacking lines, what happens to the stacked clips if I'm 20 feet or so above the ball? Does it just come up to the pulley and the cable slides through it?

After reading all the posts on DR's, I'm almost thinking I should just jig for kokes. 101faceslap101

You don't say how big your boat is? If you're only mounting 2 DR I would mount them 3' from the aft. Alway keep in mind that you might want to add 2 more DR for Kokanee fishing, those can be mounted aft, booms extended directing out from the stern; especially if you're fishing with a buddy and you both have a 2 pole stamp.
You only need 8lb or 10lb weights for Kokanee fishing, personally I use 10lb.
When retrieving with your Cannons it has a built in stop, you have no programing functionality to change this. Just make sure line stacked on top is below the auto stop position. If you disregard this auto stop position your stacker clip will rub on your cable and eventually the stacker will wear out and/or the cable will become worn. IMHO you should always extend your booms to their max for 2 reasons: 1) less chance of your lines getting fouled up on a turn and 2) you cover more fishing area, especially if you add 2 more DR. Believe me if you get hooked on Kokanee fishing and your boat and wallet can handle 4 DR you will get them.

My boat is 24'. I don't forsee getting 2 more DR's but who knows. My intention is that koke fishing fills the gap between river salmon runs. I like my boat and I'll likely be buried in it.

The Cannons have the "positive ion" thingy and once the cable is out of the water, it's supposed to stop as long as the ball is isolated from the wire. It's not like the scotty's.

Thanks.
