When I went on that trip I had no intention of trying for a record. Only after meeting up with Gary Miralles of Shasta Tackle, who spawned the idea of trying for a record and brought the 4 lb line, did I even think about trying. I tried so hard that I only spooled the 4 lb line on one rod. Pure chance that the fish decided to hit the only rod on our boat spooled with 4 lb line.


I was using a Lamiglas rod (CG 70 DR) and an older Abu Garcia reel.
