we are heading for Green Peter Res. on the 16th for 4 days of kokanee fishing and the last item I need to take care of is the corn.

I have a couple of cans of white shoepeg corn ready to color/flavor and thinking of also buying a couple bottles of the Fire Corn from the Pautzke folks, so I am trying to decide the best colors.

What would be the 3 or 4 colors to make sure and have?????

my first thought is to have these for sure: yellow, pink, and green.

thanks in advance for suggestions from the experts here...cheers, roger

never had much luck with the fire corn but the red and green maggots worked very well I just use shoepeg corn split 4 ways 1 plain 1 with lots of kokanee special and a couple of drops of anise 1 with bloody tuna and 1 with mikes kokanee glo scent and alternate maggots and corn untill I find a winning combo. I was at greenpeter this week and did a unplaned test, corn or plain it was easey because day 1 forgot the corn and maggots in the cooler at camp and was out on the lake before I found out, we fished 6am to 12 noon both days and boated 18 kokanee, and 4 trout before I got the down riggger down fast enough. day 2 we had every thing and boated 20 and 6 trout, the ticket both days was a matrix dodger with a pink blade blue assassin. and a pink splater sling blade and pink wiggle hoochie the days were clear with a full moon at night, we were at 30 to 40' untill the wind chop came up then they were at 40 to 60' hope this helps and good luck

If your thinking about going with dyed corn i'd advice sticking with the shoepeg. I haven't read of that much success with the fire corn since it's been out. I do carry some on the boat as a back up in case i ever forget the shoepeg but haven't needed to use it so far. I've tried alot of different scents and am now down to mainly kokanee special and garliic. If i dye i use pink wizard kokanee killer korn dye. All batches get a few shakes of wizard kokanee killer korn magic to firm up the kernals and a few drops of anise. The garlic batch is done with procure oil and their slam-ola garlic powder...you don't want to be down wind when that container gets opend up!! Some other good scents to try are tuna oil and vanilla extract.

Never caught a thing on firecorn. Some have reported success with it, but for me it no longer is even considered.

I'm with silverbullits, I carry the fire corn in my box, but rarely use it. Shoepeg with tuna oil, tuna oil with garlic plus and a little bit of anise.

Tuna oil has been the ticket for me. Now when using Anis are we talking about 2 drops of extract or something from Mikes or Pro-cure?

I use the pro-cure "anis plus" but i'm sure the extract would work fine. Getting back to the question of what dye colors work best in my experience they all work at certain times (at least where i fish) but i'd have to say pink is most consistant. I kinda got away from dyeing (used to use the pro-cure "bad azz" dyes in all colors) and just make up a batch now with a mixture of the wizard dye and pautzke nectar. I use the nectar to cut the color/strength of the dye to a light shade of pink. The bad azz dyes are really potent and will dye anything and everything they comes in contact with (i don't like the idea of having to wear rubber gloves for putting corn on the hooks.) On a side note...don't try to dye worms with it. Oh, they seem to really enjoy it for the first few seconds...after that it's all downhill! laugh hyst
