I was getting fishing fever so I decided to take a trip on the boat for the first time this year to the Gorge. I am sorry to say I did not go up to fish for the kokanee but for the mack's and rainbow's. The first day all we did was jig for the mack's, it was slow but we caught a few by antelope flats using the Gulp Shaky Shads in 3". Then we went to Sheep creek to try for rainbow's and I snagged a fenwick casting pole and reel with all the paper work still attached (best catch of the day) from the water. the next day we decided to jig again and caught a couple more using the Shaky Shad jig. We drove to the far back of Horse Shoe Canyon and started killing the Rainbow's just casting into shore using Christenson's Lake Shore Tackle Company Spinners that I bought at Angler's Den in Ogden. The red and silver spinner and the pink and glow worked the best. We had five people and two of us were using these spinners and the others were using everything. Those spinners out fished rapala, jake's and what ever else they were using 6 to 1. No Joke they tried everything and the majority of the fish werecaught using those spinners.

Overall it was a good start to the year and in a couple of weeks I am going to catch the Koke's.

Good report. It's always good to get out fishin'. I have found, and others will agree, that the rainbows from the Gorge taste just as good as the Kokanee. Nice, red meat, either smoked or grilled...delicious !!!

Weather was great it blew a little on thursday and I am going to try and hit it for the koke's friday thru sunday.

Casting Pole

Hey Tuna,

Did the pole have an Abu Garcia casting reel on it with the plastic wrap still on the handle? Just off the point near the boat-in campground? Lost one there about 3 weeks ago. Funny if that was it. It popped out of the rod holder. Felt like a knuckle head when it happened ..... sort of like that moment when you're closing the car door and realize your keys are still inside and you can't react quick enough.

No it had a diawa casting reel that was blue and silver but the pole did have all of the paper work still with it and the handles were still wrapped in plastic.

Sounds like a good find. I'll go back over in a couple of weeks and try to drag something through the area and see if I can snag the other one. Wind came up pretty good and I didn't have anything really heavy to get down deep and see if I could get it. Good luck up there!
