Took a trip to Buckboard last weekend for the first time.
It was really nice to check out a new part of the lake as normally we go to Cedar Springs.
I first of all want to thank all of you for posting the reports to get me going on the right track.
I hear a lot of chatter about Breeze hill so we headed in that direction on Saturday. It seems that Breeze hill is no secret, because there we're about 20 boats in VERY close proximity with each other. We decided to stay well clear of the Breeze group and headed south. It took us quite a while to find a school of biting fish but we ended up catching 2 silver kokes, a nice rainbow and a very small laker. But more importantly we knew where to go the next morning. We caught the kokes on a pink sling blade and a pink kok-a-nut. also adding maggot Gulp and rmt sockeye slayer. The bow and laker we're caught late morning. The kokes in the afternoon.
Sunday morning we back to the area well south of Breeze. (not sure the name of the area?) Lowe canyon??
We we're marking fish on the graph, but catching nothing so we just kept changing lures over and over and over until we finally started catching kokes on a red and green Wedding Ring with a bright orange spinner behind a pink and purple rmt dodger. Also adding the Gulp and Slayer. It seemed once we found that magical combo for the day it got pretty fun. We boated 3 with several fish getting off too. 1 partial red and 2 silver. All fish we're caught after 9:30am and we we're off the lake by noon. We caught all fish around 50' deep.
I know it's late in the season and was wondering if that catch rate is typical or if you guys who fish the area often do much better?
We def seem to catch more fish around Cedar Springs in early august.
Thanks for any input.
Over all a fun trip and I can't wait to come back earlier in the year next season.
Will be at the Berry for the rest of this season.
