A New Small Baitcaster Reel WITH LINE COUNTER!

I saw a new reel from Daiwa today at my local Tackle shop, its a Daiwa AccuDepth #ADICV-15 , 3-1 gear Ratio & holds 150 yards of 10# or 175 yards of 8# line. The line counter is in the center of the reel just above the the line guide and even with the top of the reel and even with the sides. It does NOT hang out or set on top of the reel.. It runs on a small battery for 5 years and if thats not long enough they have another model with SOLAR POWER!! Its a really well built reel & PERFECT for KOKANEE!! Price is about $150.00 for the battery powered reel.

Ive got 2 on my wish list!! Kokonuts

Nice Find! I've been useing the Daiwa Accudepth AD17 Line counter reels since I started kokanee fishing. This new model looks very promising! Do you know if you can calibrate it for different weight line?

No clicker. Here is a testimony of the reels review:

The reel performed flawlessly on four scrappy little landlocked steelhead once I switched out to the preferred lure of the day. My other rod was getting all the action, so I moved the hot lure to get the feel of the Diawa in action.

I should back up and mention that I modified the reel before it's first outing. The reel comes with not two, but four drag spring washers (the bent washers directly under the star drag). Out of the box, even with the star backed completely out, there still seemed to be significant drag. I noticed the same on the display model at the store. I opened it up and removed one of the four washers and reassembled and it felt fine. I can now back the drag off to total free spool when stored and it still tightens down to offer more drag than I would ever need. There is a discrepancy between the rated drag marked in the manual (9# max) and the website (13.2# max). I suspect that fourth washer was the difference.

With the steelies knack for multiple runs, I was able to get a good idea of how smooth this little reel is, and how quiet. The lack of a clicker takes a little adjusting to, funny how dependent we become on small features. You have to watch carefully for the strike. The wind was howling this morning and it affected the speed dramatically so hearing the pitch change of the downrigger wire was not reliable. I had one break the surface behind the boat from 50' down OTW and as I looked at the digital linecounter, it showed the fish had already ripped an extra 20' of line......quietly!

All-in-all, I was very pleased with the first outing on this little reel.

Definitely has some potential....I suppose I could live without the clicker... does it come with internal bells once the line is ripping out... and then it will have ringtone capability too. :) Seriously they will add line alarms to it, I give it 18 months.

I bought a couple of these Okuma reels last season:

Not a bad real for a great price. And there is a clicker.

I have 2 Okuma MA30's & Convector 15's. Okumas are a excellent choice. Also have the Caimen Ticas. Once again excellent choice. Now I think I'm gonna have to keep up with technology with these Daiwas. Some day I'm going to quit buying so much and start using what I have. NNOOOOTTTT laugh hyst

Gonna stick with what I got.... Diawa AD17 w/mechanical counter...but will look at it at the show in Feb.

Have a nice winter Koke-heads....see you after winter steelhead and many spring chinook,
