First trip since the Buckboard tourney on June 10th. We headed back to buckboard to camp on the shore but after arriving discovered the water had risen about 6 to 7 feet since the previous visit. In fact, talking to some other campers they said the water had come up about 12 inches that day...
Early Saturday morning headed out by the Island and found the water stained and fishing was very very slow.. After about an 90 mins without a bite and trying proven colors of the past, we headed to Holmes Crossing where we fished the remainder on the morning with two bites and we caught one...Lunch time.
The weather was a bit challenging with the wind and thunder storm clouds but we headed out in the late afternoon to the Big Bend area - we wanted to stay close as Mother Nature was looking Mad and we needed a quick exist stategy.. fished about 90 mins again - two bites and lost both - stupid fish.
So new plan for Sunday morn -- Head to Anvil where the water is clear and the weather cooperated for most of the morning.. Got into fish right away and caught a few 2.5 to 3 pound fish and not any small ones.. Got limits for the two guys that were heading home that day cause we were stay onto to Monday.
Monday - best weather day and best fishing too... unfortunately the little kokes were out in full force - it didn't seem to matter the depth, you would catch them shallow and as deep as 45.. the bigger fish seem to come at the 22' to 28' range. We ended up keeping two small ones that were hooked badly and filled the wife's and my limit with 3 #'s.
We did see a boat (pop gear patrol) just slaining the little ones and keeping a Golden Eagle happy swooping down a getting breakfast from the fish that didn't survive the catch & release process from those guys..
Sorry no camera this trip.... one FYI - we drove the two lane back from Manila to Mountain View and there is a section about 3 miles north from Lone Pine that amost made you pop a wheely - it's not well marked but you hit about 5 good launching ramps in a short distance..
