Kicker too big?

The Yamaha 8hp is a very good motor for sure. I went with the 9.9 for a couple reasons: Electric Start and Tilt features plus it has an Alternator which keeps my batteries charged while trolling. Which is not a bad idea if you run Electric Downriggers.

My 8 HP has all those great features as well. I'm curious if one is appreciably quieter than the other.

I bought my 9.9 in 2011 and the sales person told me I couldn't get those features with an 8hp. Guess I should have checked a little deeper because an 8 horse would have been perfect for my rig. The 9.9 is pretty quiet but don't know how it compares to an 8.

Salesperson might have been accurate for his stock. Since he probably couldn't order something that was discontinued.

near as I could tell when I bought mine the salesman told me they were the same except for hp and displacement, same bore different stroke. here's the specs. T8

the T8 is a little heaver because of the pull start feature
on my heavy boat it's nice having the extra hp especially in the wind and currents to. dfly
