Hello,

This is my first visit back to the gorge in a few years and my time is limited. I am camping and staying in the Manila area and need any info. you are willing to provide on hot spots, depths, colors, etc. I would love to do the obvious trip north to buckboard area but just don't have the time this trip. I have had success in Jarvies in the past as well as red cliffs in sheep creek. It has been a year or two so I am seeking any input on where to try near hideout/Lucerne area with limited time? Appreciate any info. you are willing to provide.

thanks

I do have a boat and down riggers, just rusty as hell. I am camping on Utah side and keeping kids happy with watersports, etc and then trying to get some fishing in for my self. Going back up for the fourth weekend from Thursday to sunday, gonna make the kids give me 1 day devoted to trolling/fishing. How far up the lake to the North are the hot spots? I am told I can purchase all necessary permits in Manila to fish Wyoming side, is this true? Just trying to make the most of this trip as it may be my only shot for the year.

thanks,

Joe

If you're going to be camped in Utah, I fished in Sheep Creek Bay this morning, near the mouth of the cut-thru and Horseshoe Bend (westside). Koke fishing was really good and most of my fish came from 60 ft of water trolling about 1.8-2.0 mph. The spoon bite was best and I did really good on RMT Serpent spoons in Tequila Sunrise and Carribean Sunset. They averaged around 2lbs, but I caught a couple of bigger ones a couple of ounces shy of 3 lbs. I also boated some lake trout and a rainbow trout using the same gear. Hope you get the info in time and have a good 4th of July. Ryno

Ryno,

This is great info as always! I'm assuming when you say near the mouth of the cut through you are talking about the area just before the red cliffs on the west side of the main channel? Is the cut through still passable? Also, when you say horseshoe bend I'm assuming you are talking about the channel to the east of kingfisher island? I'm just trying to clarify as I'm still trying to learn the gorge terminology! Also, I know there are links to Kokanee Tackle and RMT products. Do you know if either has an actual physical catalog I can get my hands on? Thanks for any help.

Yep, if you go all the way to the east from the launch, it will narrow down to the cut thru. It's less than 2' deep now, but I did see a boat go through there yesterday. The cut thru is a short cut for Horseshoe Canyon, so the channel is on each side of it. Horseshoe is now open to above wakeless speeds which helps, but its an extra 3-miles or so around.

Not sure on the RMT catalog. You could go to their website and see if they offer one? Good luck!
