Anyone know how deep lead line goes for each color in the water ? Assuming a average trolling speed. If I remember right there was several different weight/test lines available. I am looking for a general average. Jack

Lead Depth

I read on a pack of Gudebrod leadcore it goes down roughly 5 feet for each color out.It seems to run pretty close to that ,but things like trolling speed can vary depths reached.Generally I think most people guess where they want to be and if they get bit they let out that many colors again. It works ,but it is a lot guess work and some times lots of line out.2cents

I was going to say from my old days that I remember, it was 7 feet per color after 4 colors and if i remember right it does plane out (NO DEEPER) after 9. that is why I changed to jet divers.

Lead line comes in different test line or weight. I always used 18 lbs line and came to the conclusion that I was at 25' - 30' with 5 colors out.

That's close enough. I'll go with 5' per color. Easier to do the math ;) I would rather be shallower than than too deep anyways. My wife is the one that likes using lead line, I prefer the downrigger for deep fish. By the way, another question comes to mind. I read some where that mid July is about it for Kokes due to spawning. When do you guy's start and finish your Kokanee fishing ? Jack

My wife hates riggers (go figure, cause I can't). I use to set her up with lead line, but have since change to diver planes with a line counter reel. you use less line and have less of a chance to loose those fisty kokes. September down here in the middle 48 is spawning time. It is getting close to quiting time.
