Hi Guys,
Fished Merwin today. Whew what a hot buggar. Face, ears and neck sunburnt bad. Anyhow got a limit 4 Kokes and a rainbow kicker. The rainbow was only barely 10 inches but I didn't know it was on the line till I drug it around till it was dead before I reeled in to check bait and got the surprise. LOL so much for a release there LOL.
Biggest Koke was 16 1/2 with a 2nd one pretty darn close to that one. The other 2 were 14 1/2 and a 13 1/2.
Hard day. Those were the only bites other than the 3 squawfish I got too.
Started off for hours fishing one rigger at 20 and the other at 10 with only 1 fish in 5 hours. I had the 1st fish on the 20 ft. rigger. I dropped the 2nd rigger down to 15ft and got a fish within seconds. Brought the other up to 15 and finished up the next 3 within a hour. Pretty pickey when they don't want to move up or down 5 feet and you got to be right on em. Considering I don't have any electronics on the drift boat I got craphouse lucky I found the magic depth today.

Nice Fish. How far back from the down riggers were you fishing?

I was about 85 ft. back. on the rigger's and fished with a Shasta pink UV Slingblade and pink wiggel hootchie on one rod. The other rod I had a Rocky Mt. Tackle UV pink spatterback dodger and red wedding ring.
Bait was corn marinated in mike's shrimp oil then used a Gulp maggot threaded on to help hold on the corn.

I tryed other colors of dodgers and hootchies to no avail. I might of tryed going to green on the WR with the sun that bright on the water just didn't get that far. This is only my 4th trip ever fishing for kokes so still experamenting with what works and what don't lol.

Right now....anything pink and shallow never went below 10ft on the riggers. Lead lines may have been down 15 its hard to say. Sling blades bent for more whip, adjust speed almost to the point of spinning but just under. Hoochies tied at 8". Tried 4 flavors of corn, brined shrimp, and still went back to pink maggots.

I may be going to darn slow. If you all see me in my white drift boat and it looks like I'm going to slow swing by and tell me. I'm still new to the koke thing.
Pink maggots? never saw those at Bob's are they Gulp or Power Bait?
I just got the Gulp one that is brown color. Dosen't smell like there is any other sent like garlic or shrimp etc., added. Is there a differance other than color?

No difference that I know of other than color, yes gulp maggots. Slow is good, 1.5 give or take. I had some hits on the inside and out side of turns as well as going straight, so I don't know what to say about that. Speed up, slow down try it all until you find what works. More bend means more whip at a slower speed, going with the wind I was having a hard time keeping them from rolling and gps was saying close to 2mph just a little over.

Easy limits

Two easy limits this morning just outside Speelyai launch. They took every color we threw at them; anywhere from 14' to 30'. Most were caught with 1 oz. and 28 pulls longlining. Downriggers caught two fish at 12' with 25' line behind ball.
