working on the mill late last summer and thinking about fishing and how my glow stuff dosen't last and how you have to charge it all the time which cuts into my fishing time I decided to make a better glow product and remembering the glow sticks my grand daughter was playing with this last 4th of july and how long they lasted and how bright they were. I thought I would incorporate them into a dodger. so I set one up on the mill and milled 3 slots down the middle on a 4.5'' dodger so I could weave a 4'' glow stick down the middle I fills in the slots can be seen on both sides and dosn't interfear with the action it is far brighter and last longer than anything out there, and when dim just pull the old one out and slip another one and send it back down. they come in 6 colors and good for at least 4 hrs. before starting to dim plus they are 6 for a buck at the buck store. you should be able to slot any size dodger and if you use the plastic dodgers you could use a router or drimel to experiment with and use whatever tape for reflector you want plus try different glow colors. here is first one I made. the top is before and after the bottom one is one with a glow stick in it in the dark(thats the best I can do with my camera) but you can see the effect dfly

you might try a die grinder if you are careful but you need the long slots so it lies flat so it dosn't interfear with the action, and the glow can be seen from both sides. remember they are bright and can litterally be seen a mile away and so far my finding is they wont help during the day untill you are 40' plus in depth any way I only have about 10 hrs. testing and havent tried all the glow colors and conditions yet to see what works best. dfly

There was a lure manufacturer who made both a thin metal casting/trolling spoon and a heavy vertical jigging lure like a Gibbs Minnow that had a similar slot that you could press a mini glow stick into and get the same effect on lures. Don't know if they still make them.
Put your glow sticks on ice when you're travelling from spot to spot or over night after you activate them and they last longer.

Calamari thats good to know. at home I have stuck them in the microwave (not too long other wise you will be banned from the microwave) to revive them but it dosn't last long. dfly

dragonfly,
Great idea! There's a lure manufacture in the midwest that makes spoons with this feature. He gave me a bunch of them to use out here in the PNW. But have not got a chance to get them wet. Some of the spoons he gave are as big as your typical Shasta Tackle, Rocky Mtn, dodger, same shape. Might have to strip off the funky Great Lakes paint jobs on them, dip them them in some UV and fish them this spring.

Thanks for reminding me I have those darn things!!!
