so im in the market for a few new kokanee reels. i do not want to spend too much. the obvious criteria for me is it needs to be a levelwind. i always use left hand retrieve, needs to have a clicker. does not need to have a counter. the thing is, i want to find this package in a small reel. i use very light weight rods. love the lightweight gear on downriggers. im having trouble finding anything. does anyone have a direction to send me? and by not spending too much, i dont really want to spend more than $50/reel.

thanks guys

Well.............. Good luck. on that. All that you want is gonna more than likely be a little more. Remeber you wont something with a quailty drag system.

I would recommend Tica brand.

I think thwe web site is www.ticaglobal.com

Look at the caiman series. Many many of us here use this brand and I think you will be happy, they have everything that you want in that reel

ive looked at the tica's. a bit more than i want to spend right now. i did find some lami koke rods on basspro's site for $59. thinking of picking a couple of them up now.

I think you will have trouble finding a reel for Kokanee that meets your criteria for $50. However, that doesn't mean it is NOT possible. Are you looking new or used?

With the recent push and popularity for Tica reels, I'm sure that someone will be willing to sell their Abu Garcia 4600s with clickers around your price range. I would just continue to monitor the classifieds as the Kokanee season starts approaching along with the fishing shows getting underway. Another option is eBay. I bought the majority of my reels on eBay, and I have had no problems with any my reels whatsoever. A few years ago, I bought 4 Abu Garcia 4600C3s for about 130 shipped. Now, the catch is that they didn't come with clickers. I had to spend a little extra for the clicker addition. Plus, I also swapped out the drags with greased carbon fiber drags. If you do the math, I still spent over $50 a reel.

I guess what I am trying to say is that you can either bump up your budget a bit, or you can just browse eBay and the classified sections. Good things come to those who wait. ;) Good luck!

I purchased a couple of Okuma Convector 15 reels and used them with very much satisfaction this past season. I also have a couple of larger Okumas on a couple of bigger rods, like them too. These have line counters but I think you can get them without, left hand, and maybe within you spending range. For years, used Penn 209's and still have them. Penn has a smaller version and the price is under $50.00. Recently purchased a couple of gold Caiman 100 Ticas. Can't waite to use them. All mentioned above have clickers and are level winds. There are reels out there and I hope this helps some. You can always hit up Ebay. I got my Okuma Con.15's as a pair for a good price on Ebay. Are the Lamiglass rods you found the JJ Team Kokanee red rod?

Well.............. Good luck. on that
+1.

I sell my used Abu Garcia reels for anywhere from $65 to $75. Reels with clickers sell for a premium now that many brands don't make them on the smaller reels anymore.

I do remember about 6 months back buying a pair of Daiwa Accudepth 17LCs or 27LCs (can't remember now the exact model) off of eBay for my uncle for $55 each (included shipping) for Striper fishing. Those did have a clicker and a line counter. The only thing I did not care too much about was the drag system. I never looked, but I am sure you can swap out the drags for greased carbon fiber. However, this setup will still be pushing the to $70 to $75 range after upgrading the drags. While these may be "overkill" for Kokanee, this may be a cheaper and more viable option for you if you choose not to upgrade the drags.

Also, just as a note, I noticed you live in Idaho. I'm not too familiar with fishing in that area, but if you get the Daiwas, they may also serve as "double duty" for toplining for Rainbows or Mackinaw (Lake Trout) fishing as they have line counters and can hold quite a bit of line.

I just wanted to throw that out there. :)

called abu garcia...cant get the 4600's with a clicker. called ollie damons up in portland and they said you can put a clicker in them. cost about $25.

so i scored an abu 4601 (c3) tonight...traded a bow release i dont use for it. it was a good trade.....with my dad. ha ha. its nice having a dad that has a horrible addiction to fishing gear. and yes, it has been passed on. i swear his garage looks like a fishing shop. he converted the den inside the house for making his lures, etc. my mom loves that! going to send it up to ollies this week to have the clicker put in. one down, two to go.
