Just wanted to say hi. I'm as green as they get when it comes to kokanee fishing. I'm looking forward to trying my luck at this fishery this year and being able to do it the right way. If I run into any of you, be sure to say hi. I'm in a black Lund 1650 Renegade with a white 30 HP. Evenrude. I will probably be on Merwin mostly this year. Hope to see some of you out there. Thanks for the welcome. I plan to try it up near the LM Hideaway Camp area this Friday. It is supposed to be nice weather and I don't have a top on my boat. So I think I will take advantage of the sunshine. Happy fishing.

Thanks to all for the welcome. I look forward to meeting everyone eventually. Say, lowe1648mt, I have heard somewhere you might know something about Minnkota electric motors with auto pilots? Is that the case? If so, I am considering selling my 80# Minnkota Vector 3x transome mount electric motor sometime this spring and getting a bow mount one with auto pilot so I can better handle a fish if one happens to bite my hook without having to do the Chineese fire drill. I have never run into the shore or another boat yet, but it's bound to happen eventually. Seems the older I get the harder it is to steer a straight course. Being an old Navy man you'd think that shouldn't be a problem. But things have a way of happening when you're playing a fish. I've been at this fishing thing for about 55 years or so with flyfishing and salmon fishing and I can speak from experience. If there is something that can go sideways, it is bound to happen when you get a fish on.

I'm in the process of installing a new 101 riptide minn kota electric with co pilot bow mount on my sled its a 36 volt unit/most of the folks I talk to advised to purchase the 101 they advised I would a lot happier with the extra power. I purchased a quick disconnect bow mount and had that installed have to have a plate for the battary pre fabbeing done along with on and off switch and charging unit. I'm hoping it will open up some new avenues of fishing for us. I did purchaase the foot pedal and I'm having a small pedesial and seat put in place in the front og my boat with is a 21 foot Motion Marine open quide model

Strike Zone,
What kind of questions do you have? I can probably answer most of them. Call if you would rather talk than type. Have you posted a picture of your boat yet?
I have worked on boats for more than 30 years. I've Installed equipment of almost every description on boat up to 50 ft. My present boat is a lowe 16 ft flat bottom with a motor Guide Remote control bow mount( both hand held and foot control.) I also have a BIG 9.9 Merc. for the main motor. Not fast.

Chris:

Thank you and all else for the reply. I'll probably give you a buzz tomorrow night or Saturday sometime to talk with you a little about bow mount motors after I spend the day at Merwin. I hope of course to have some success up there, but you never know, especially when you're just learning about a body of water and how/where to fish it. I will try to get a picture or two of my boat that I'm considering putting a bow mount electric motor on, I already have a Columbia River anchor roller unit for anchoring up to fish for kings up there so I will have to work around that somehow. I'm asuming I can just move it a little towards the stern on either side? Do you have any trouble controlling your boat with a foot pedal or would you recomend a wrist held remote? Thanks

[ Hi. You have your wife join you in the boat huh. Good for you. Mine comes along occasionally, but it is usually for just 3 hours or so. I sort of burned her out up in BC. years ago when I wanted to flyfish from daylite till dark. Live and hopefully learn. Thanks for the info. on the hand held remote. I was leaning that way myself.
It was absolutely gorgeous up at Merwin today. As I said, I am in the bottom of the learning curve when it comes to kokanee fishing. I think I had 3 hits up there, but I'm not sure. There is no guessing when a king hits your lure. But I'm still working on the kokes. I think I was doing things like I was supposed to, but I'm thinking of respooling a couple of my reels with 8# momo for longlining instead of the 30 pound braid I just put on them. I think I was scaring the fish away today, because a guy I talked to said he was using the same stuff I was, only he had 8# momo on his reels and was using about a 1/8th oz. bullet sinker ahead of a glo white dodger followed by about 10 inch leader to a pink hootchie or pink wiggle butt at 100 feet back. I was real close except for the braided line. Even tho the fishin wasn't good, the wearher was fantastic. Even got a sunburn. The fish were showing at 75 feet to 130 feet all over my fish finder, but I had no luck getting any of them to bite. It's too early for them when the're that far down anyway I think. But I did try. I saw 3 herds of elk this morning with about 7-8 big bulls in them. I'll try to post a pic. here of the boat so you can see what I'm in. It's not real fancy, but it is comfortable on nice days like today. Sorry, can't figure out how to do it.

Nice going at least you made it out. Let's move this to the Washington posts, or private messages. Probably not the right place for anything other than Introductions.

Kokaguy1: Afternoon. I only talked with one fella from Woodland who was there about a week ago. He,hi wife and little boy did quite well they said. Yesterday there were at least 30 boats on the lake. I saw one boat with two guys in it catch 4 in about an hour, but there were alot who didn't have any luck also. I'm sure it is just going to improve as the year progresses.
