Cabresto Lake: The lake and campground closed May 14 and will stay closed for about six months while the dam is being rebuilt.
Charette Lakes: Fishing was fair using Power Bait and Pistol Petes for trout. Fishing was fair using worms and Power Bait for perch.
Cimarron River: Fishing was good using bead head pheasant tails, Cimarron worms and bead head red San Juan worms. A few fish were also taken on night crawlers and small spinners. Water flow below Eagle Nest Lake as of Monday was 49 cfs.
Clayton Lake: Hot spot for trout. Fishing was very good using Power Bait for limits of trout. Fishing for walleye was fair using spinners. We had no reports on other species. Due to low water conditions, only small boats, kayaks and canoes can be launched.
Conchas Lake: Hot spot for white bass. Fishing continued to be very good using crank baits, grubs, sassy shad, minnows and spinners for white bass. Fishing was good using minnows, jigs, bottom bouncer/night crawler combos, spinners and crank baits for walleye. Fishing was fair using tubes, worms, smallie beavers, crawdads, crank baits and jerk baits for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. Fishing was fair using cut bait, stink bait, liver and night crawlers for catfish. The surface water temp was in the mid to high 60s.The steep north side boat ramp is open.
Coyote Creek: Trout fishing was good using Power Bait, salmon eggs and cheese.
Eagle Nest Lake: Hot spot for perch: Fishing was very good using worms for perch. Fishing was good trolling spinners and small spoons on light tackle near the shore line for trout and kokanee. Bank fishing for trout was good using Power Bait. Fishing was good using jerk baits, swim baits, Rapalas, Kastmasters and large spoons in shallow water for northern pike.
Hopewell Lake: Trout fishing was good using Power Bait, pheasant tail nymphs, salmon eggs, worms and spinners.
Lake Maloya: Hot spot for trout: Fishing was very good using Pistol Petes, wooly buggers, spinners, corn, worms, Power Bait, homemade dough baits and salmon eggs for trout up to five pounds.
Los Pinos: Trout fishing was fair to good using salmon eggs, worms, spinners and bead head San Juan worms.
Maxwell Lake 13: Fishing was slow. A few trout were taken by anglers using Power Bait. We had no reports on other species.
Monastery Lake: Trout fishing was slow to fair using worms, salmon eggs, Power Bait and Pistol Petes.
Morphy Lake: Fishing was good using Power Bait, spinners, homemade dough baits, salmon eggs and cheese.
Pecos River: Water flow near the town of Pecos on Monday was 160 cfs. Trout fishing was good using copper John Barrs, bead head prince nymphs, worms and spinners.
Red River: Water flow below the hatchery was 138 cfs. Fishing was fair using tungsten bead red San Juan worms and copper John Barrs for trout.
Rio Grande: The water flow Monday at the Taos Junction Bridge was 371 cfs. Fishing for smallmouth bass was good using large streamers, jerk baits and black and brown wooly buggers. Fishing for trout was good using night crawlers, poundmeisters, wooly buggers, copper John Barrs and spinners. Stone flies worked well in the late evening hours. Fishing for northern pike was fair using large streamers and pike flies.
Rio Pueblo: Water flow as of Monday morning was 33 cfs. Trout fishing was good using poundmeisters and bead hares ears.
Shuree Ponds: Closed for the season. Opens July 1.
Springer Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week. With the water release for irrigation, it has become difficult to launch boats.
Storrie Lake: Fishing was fair to good using Power Bait, corn, salmon eggs and cheese for trout. We had no reports on other species.
Ute Lake: Fishing for white bass was good trolling white crank baits and spinners. Fishing for walleye was best at night using jig/night crawler combinations. A few were taken trolling with crank baits during the day. Fishing for largemouth bass and smallmouth bass was fair using jigs, crank baits, senkos, chigger craws, smallie beavers and jerk baits. Fishing for crappie was good using minnows. Fishing for catfish was fair to good using stink baits, chicken liver and shrimp.
Northwest
Abiquiu Lake: Fishing was fair using tubes, grubs, crank baits, and minnows for smallmouth bass. Fishing was fair drifting minnows, bottom bouncer/night crawler rigs and grubs for walleye. A few were also taken on crank baits. Fishing was fair using crank baits, spinners and night crawlers for brown trout. We had no reports on other species.
Animas River: As of Monday morning flow near Cedar Hill was 1,190 cfs. Trout fishing was fair using spinners, worms and tungsten bead wooly buggers.
Bluewater Lake: Fishing for tiger musky was good using jerk baits, crank baits, Kastmasters,
Z Rays, spinners, tubes and Power Bait. Anglers are reminded that the size limit for tiger musky is 40 inches. Short fish must be returned and only one over 40 inches may be kept. Trout fishing was slow. There were a few taken on Power Bait.
Canjilon Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Chama River: Monday morning water flows below El Vado and Abiquiu were 1,070 cfs and 961 cfs respectively. Trout fishing below El Vado was fair using silver and gold Panther Martins, Power Bait, night crawlers and wooly buggers. Fishing below Abiquiu was slow.
Cochiti Lake: Fishing was generally slow for all species. There were a few white bass, largemouth bass and white bass taken by anglers using tubes, jigs, crank baits and spinners. Fishing for catfish was slow to fair using stink bait and shrimp.
El Vado Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Fenton Lake: Fishing was good using Power Bait, worms, salmon eggs, Panther Martins, homemade dough baits, bead head nymphs and olive Pistol Petes for trout.
Heron Lake: Fishing was good trolling Panther Martins, fish catchers, kokanee killers and Arnies for kokanee. Most of the fish caught were at depths of 17 to 22 feet. On May 20, Micayla Fajarda, age 8 of Albuquerque caught a 29-inch 10.2-pound lake trout. She was trolling a fluorescent yellow Cyclops at 25 feet. We receive this info too late for last week’s Catches of the Week but definitely felt it was worth mentioning here. Bank fishing for trout was slow but there were a few taken on Power Bait, homemade dough bait and spinners.
Jackson Lake: Fishing was slow for all species.
Jemez Waters: Water flow on the Jemez as of Monday morning was 14 cfs. Trout fishing over the past weekend was good using worms, copper John Barrs, hoppers, wooly buggers and Panther Martins. On the East Fork, fishing was good using copper John Barrs, bead head hares ears and salmon eggs. On the Cebolla, fishing was good using worms, salmon eggs and wooly worms. On the Rio Las Vacas, fishing was fair using hoppers, copper John Barrs and worms.
Laguna del Campo: Opened for the season on May 1. Trout fishing was fair using Power Bait, worms, salmon eggs and spinners. This is a special trout water open to anglers age 14 years or under, 65 years and older, handicapped anglers or up to 2 parents/guardians in direct supervision of a child or children age 14 years or younger who is fishing. This water was formerly known as Burn’s Canyon Lake.
Lake Farmington: We just received this report from last week and thought it worth mentioning. Larry Phan caught a 28-inch northern pike. He was using a rainbow colored rooster tail. We had no reports on other species.
Manzano Lake: Trout fishing was fair using Power Bait, Pistol Petes and salmon eggs.
McGaffey Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Navajo Lake: Fishing was fair using crank baits, tube jigs, whacky rigged worms, curly tail grubs, creature baits and jerk baits for smallmouth and largemouth bass. Fishing was fair to good using minnows and small light colored jigs for crappie. Fishing was slow to fair using crank baits, jerk baits, swim baits and large flies for northern pike. Fishing was good using worms for bluegill. We had no reports on other species. Surface temps ranged from 61 degrees to 67 degrees.
Ramah Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
San Juan: Water flow below Navajo Lake as of Monday morning was 5,200 cfs. The flow will remain at this level until May 30 and then will decrease back to 500 cfs by June 1. Trout fishing in the Quality Waters section during the high flow has been good using streamers. Some anglers reported success with 4x leader and tippet on nymph rigs. Fishing through the bait waters was fair using jerk baits, spinners and night crawlers.
Santa Cruz Lake: Trout fishing was slow. We gave this spot a try last Thursday from the bank. I used wooly buggers, Pistol Petes and an assortment of spinners with no luck. Just before leaving, Carle caught and released a rainbow trout and a bluegill. Both were caught using salmon eggs. There was only one other trout caught by anglers fishing from the bank and they were using Power Bait.
Seven Springs Brood Pond: This water is open to fishing for youth under the age of 12 and
an excellent place to take youngsters and get them interested in fishing. The pond is well stocked to offer youngsters a great fishing experience.
Tingley Beach: Fishing at the Central Pond was good using hot dogs, liver and worms for catfish. We had no reports on other species. Fishing at the Catch-and-Release Pond was slow.
