I'm new to the site and only fished for kokes a couple years. I have been experimenting with different tackle and techniques and was wonereing what some of the more experinced kokanee anglers thought. What is more effective, or easier to fish with, pop gear of dodgers?
with my limited experience, sometimes pop gear produces better but i hate fishing with it because of all the drag and not being able to feel the fish.
Any thoughts would be great. thanks

What drives you to fish, meat or sport? Pop gear will ever be part of my tackle. Ball trolls I'm open too.

Attach cannonball trolls (like pop gear) directly to the ball and attach the release clip for the dodger and trailing lure a few feet above the ball and have the dodger running a couple feet inback of the trolls. Lower this a bit slower to the keep everything from getting tangled...some days this set-up works great. You have the fish attracting qualities of the trolls but only the dodger and lure on your line.
When fishing farther in back of the boat the majority of the time I use dodgers. If I do put pop gear on (which is VERY rarely) I use the small one's or Mack's Flashlites for less drag. I see alot of people useing in-line pop gear but for me the added drag and not being able to feel the fight isn't worth it...

i recently started exprimenting with those flashlites, and like them. I havent tried attaching pop gear right to the ball yet. Been a bit aprehensive for the tangles. I have also read in a book that too much flash can intimidate kokes. still trying to find that just right setup, which probably deosn't work everywhere, but it's sure funt to try.

I've been useing trolls off the ball for years...never got tangled up sending everything down. I sometimes run two 4' sets in tandom. You do need to be carful though... One morning during a hot bite chinese fire drill we wern't paying attention and got a set wrapped up in the prop. We had the riggers up after a double and the wind got us sideways. Anyway, as long as you take it easy and keep track of where everything is the ball trolls work very well some days...other days not. I like to start off running them on only one side of the boat until I see if they prefer them or a longer set back. Also, I've noticed that some days they work well in the morning but they can be a bit too much flash when the sun is high overhead. Ball trolls are just another thing to have in your bag of tricks.
