Hello,

I've ordered a new boat and one of the things I had added to the list was a Trollmaster Pro2. The dealer just emailed me and told me that they ordered the Trollmaster Pro3 by mistake. I know this one is more, and the dealer right up front told me it wasn't going to cost me any extra, but obviously if I ever down the road wanted to take advantage of the Pro 3, it would be on there.

Here's the deal. I don't see myself EVER wanting what the Pro3 does. Having said that, and aside from two extra buttons I'd rather not see or worry about if my wife is operating the boat, is there ANY downside you can see to accepting this Pro3, or should I insist on getting the Pro2 like I ordered? I don't want to be a pain - if there's no downside, I'll just accept it.

Thanks very much!

Think of the Pro3 like your computer, how much of your computers capabilities do you really use? If there is no extra cost involved, I would take it.

Thanks. I guess I'm just kind of nervous over how much $$$$ we've obligated ourselves to on this new boat we ordered and just want to make darn sure I don't make any mistakes!!! I just don't know enough (almost nothing) about the Trollmaster - figured there were smarter folks out there to help me!!

Thanks.

I don't know how much the pro troll or the I-troll are but looking at the two the I-troll is up datable and can run two engs here's a comparison http://www.itroll.us/itroll.buy.html just wondered why you chose the one you did? the only advantage I see over the I-troll is if you step up to the 3 and options it will remote steer. dfly

Well, to be honest a) It's the first and only "trolling motor assist" speed thing I've ever been around, (my buddy has the original and I've fished it many times) b) it looks simpler to me to operate (all I'm after is accurate speed adjustment) c) it seemed like the itroll, while obviously VERY popular with folks, just hadn't been out long enough, or maybe it's been out for years and I just didn't know about it? but I just felt more comfortable going with something that I thought had been out longer and was simpler with less parts to go wrong?

well that makes scents, you have to be confident in what ever you buy, and it dose look simpler to use. just wanted to make you aware of other options before spending your money on something you may regret buying later. dfly

I have been using the Pro 2 older analogue dial type for 8yrs now. At the time, I'm not too sure, if the Pro 3 was out, just don't remember. Have used the Pro 2 ever since and don't have any issues with at all. I like technology and if I had the opportunity to get a Pro 3 without extra cost so be it. I will continue to use my Pro 2 until it becomes functionless. The problem I keep running into is as soon as I purchase new electronics, its outdated. Keeping up with the changes is costly so I stay put with what I have and replace as needed. As you know by the time you replace something in the future, upgraded features you pay for today will become the standard later.

That's because we always wait for the "new" stuff to come down in price before we buy. That's our first sign that something new is about to come out. You and I will likely never drop the kind of money they ask for with new on the market stuff.

if the Pro 3 or Pro 2 malfunctioned are they able to be serviced (and if so would the Pro 2 be cheaper to service) or do you just have to replace the entire unit? i don't see any downside unless you perhaps have the Pro 3 and it malfunctions and its able to be fixed (instead of totally replaced) but maybe the repair cost is higher than the Pro 2 repair cost would have been

I've had my Pro2 serviced as I had a glitch with it at installation. I sent it to the manufacturer and they fixed it. I was only out the money to send it to them. So, that answers the, "can they be serviced" question. I think the frustrating part of these things is that it looks like you've got $20 worth of components and it cost us $200 - $300 to buy it.

Bogey,

The only thing she will need to worry about is the knob that controls the speed. The other two buttons on the PRO3 are flat. Unless she was really confused (inebriated) it wouldn't be an issue. It is an easy system to figure out. It works great for Kokes too.

$280 for customer service and technology...but you do get what you pay for most of the time

i use analog manpower for my 2 stoke johnson, sometimes there are malfunctions but it ain't the motor's fault

Thanks everyone, as always, I appreciate the feedback. I'm probably dumb for not taking the Pro3, but I just don't plan on upgrading to that panther steering gizmo, so the pro2, whether it's the better way to go or not, I'm getting it. The dealer was very good about it, I thanked him for the "free upgrade" but told him I was more comfortable with the pro2 and he's taking care of it.

I should be getting more and more excited as the "arrival" date gets closer, but for some reason I'm just getting more and more nervous!!! Mharri333, you're closer than me, nervous or excited?

Thanks again guys!

New goodies are showing up everyday getting me excited. New downriggers last night. Should get the new Garmin fish finder today. Mounts tomorrow. Black box for the Garmin after that...

Got word today (again) the dealer is behind and I will NOT get my boat tomorrow as planned. So excited is moving to ticked... (But still more excited)

Trying to be patient Bogey but it not my strong point.
