I know that somewhere in the discussion of braided cable for downriggers that it was mentioned that certain electric downriggers have part of their system grounded through the cable and therefore should not be loaded with braid. Does anybody know the specific make and model affected by this design? RP

Is there one of the cannon electric models that stops lifting when the cable exits the water? I am trying to test an older Cannon Digi-troll and I am wondering if the "UP" command requires the unit to be installed with the cable contacting the water??

The motors will work via the switch without the cable being in the water. The auto stop feature is what will be affected by having braid. You'll have to stop it manually.

My cannons had to be in the water for the motors to raise the balls. Otherwise if the cable is not in the water, the DR thinks it is already up and out of the water. Cannon says to have the boat and DR in water to test a DR.

I dispute that. Once my weight is out of the water via auto stop, I can raise the ball right up to the end of the boom by hitting the up switch again. I raise and lower my Cannons in the boat storage along side my house.

Do you already have the braid loaded?

No braid yet but I am having issues with testing the downrigger before installing it. I brought the braid issue up because I remember someone saying the same thing Autorick said in his post. Remember this is an older cast DR with the raised digital pad - anyways I will get it figured one way or the other. It doesn't seem to engage the "UP" command right now. Thanks again RP
