I was just wondering if anyone here uses the Rubber Snubbers and what are the better ones to use ? Also are they really necessary? movie89586

Have you tried doing a board search on "snubber"? My memory seems to be increasingly failing but I remember a good snubber thread back in the beginning of the season.

I don't use them and don't think they are necessary, either long lining or downrigging. The key is a very light drag setting.

When downrigging I trip the release as quickly as possible and then instantly back the drag off.

A wise man once said if a six inch fish can't pull line off your reel then your drag is to tight.worthy12

I used a red one for a few days, it seemed to be an attractant more than anything. A light drag and limber rod seems to be gentler on the soft mouths.

Dsn if you get some of the new Red JJ rods, and some decent reels, you will not need them. dont waste your money. They will sit in your box and take up room and rott.

I've never used a snubber. I suppose they could come in handy when running a in-line gang troll to help take up some of the shock. Since I use trolls off the ball, a limber rod, and mono line for stretch, the snubbers have never come out of the tackle box.

having them on hand is like having an extra rod in the boat, you never know when you will need to use them. i carry them whenever i go after trout or kokanee, i havent used them in 4 years but i know i have them if i need them

The only place I've EVER even thought about trying one was real early season when 8" ers were tearing their mouths out. And frankly, deciding just to stop fishing was a better choice.

I've never actually tried this... but I've read of success using a snubber while trolling hoochies. Seems the snubber adds attraction and transmits alot of action from the dodger to the lure.

I run snubbers, with lead core. With the utility rod, 15 lb. line, this helps soften the hookset a little. And I agree with the little hint from SB. A snubber, 4" size, attached to the front of a dodger adds a little wiggle.

The tackle cards show the snubber behind the lake troll or dodger. From my experience always position it in front.

I use Snubbers behind all of my large dodgers. It stops the fish from leveraging the water and dodger to pull loose. I think they do add action to the Hoochie as well.

Snubbers

Used them for years and then stopped using them. A little less enthsasim when hooking kokanee and no issues. I also went to 12 lb, 8 ft poles with soft tips. I have no issues and one less piece of tackle to purchase.
