I was watching a fishing show this morning. I think it was called "Fishful Fishing" I tuned in a bit late so I didn't catch the whole thing but they were scenting the water. Does anyone here do this and what do you use ? Seems like it would be a good thing to keep schools together. Jack

I didn't see the show, so I don't know what they did. Following a tip I read here n the old posts, I have done the pureed corn / ice cube tray thing and sank the corn cubes in a tea ball, while ice fishing. It definitely brings the fish in to the area, but it wont make them bite. I've wondered though, if the melting corn, as it filters out into the water, if the salmon, being plankton feeders, don't strain the bits out of the water instead of biting the lure.
I was thinking of freezing a mixture of whole corn and scent into ice cube trays and trying that rather then the puree. Then the chunks would be flavored and too big to escape the tea ball and feed the fish. Being frozen, the scent would last longer as well.

Are you speaking to ice fishing / jigging or trolling? Scent is much, much more effective in drawing in fish to a stationary position.

It looked like they were trolling. The fellow did mention that you should stay in the area. Seems obvious though. The old figure 8 sounds like the ticket to me. I was just wondering how many do it and what do they use ? I haven't read up on the regs. lately but I remember something about that "Chumming" is illegal, but I don't know if that's the same thing. What's a "Tea Ball" ???

the tea balls I was referring to is the kind you buy in the kitchen area of any store, for holding loose leaf tea. A wire mesh ball, split in half that you can put any solid flavor in.
about 2-3 bucks at wallyworld

Here in Oregon scenting the water could be taken as chumming. According to the regs the definition of chumming reads...
"Depositing in the water any substance, not attached to a hook, which may attract fish." There's alot of scent dispensers on the market made for trolling...are they illegal the way the regs read?

Thats a good question!!

 I dont see how they could seperate a homemade "SCENT DISPENSER" from the store bought types. BUT just because there are so many on the market makes them legal to use.
