I want to use a number of scents ( carp spit , kokanee special , anise , garlic , tuna oil & possibly a few more ) this year while fishing for Kokanee and I' m trying to decide whether to marinate them in individual cups of corn or apply a drop or two on corn in the boat . If I go the marinate route how long ( days , weeks ) will the corn last realistically if I use Corn Magic , a preservative ? I don't mind mixing up 4 or 5 cups of corn but wouldn 't it be easier to put the scents on individual pieces of corn or Gulp Maggots until you determine what the fish want and then mix up a cup on the water . How does everyone else do it ?

I scent the corn a few days before fishing to let it soak in. After draining the fluid from the can I spread the kernels out on paper towels to soak up the remaining fluid, then make up a few containers for different scents. The remaining corn from the can is then placed in the freezer. I've found when the Wizard Kokanee Killer Korn Magic is used the corn will last 2-3 weeks if stored in the ice chest on the boat and put back in the freezer between trips. Scroll down on this site for corn scenting tips...

I buy the small Glad plastic containers at the grocery store and mix up 3 different scents. If kept refrigerated (or in the cooler) it has lasted me a weeks worth of fishing. Try not to have the corn swimming in it, just well coated.

I do the same as Super D. I like to have a few different scents ready to go so I can just grab a kernal and bait the hook without any more messing around. Also, applying one drop of pure anise oil to one kernal of corn would be too much. I use a graduated pipet for each scent when mixing into the individual containers to make sure I dont overscent. Having said all that I do bring a container with all of my scents and some virgin corn so I can adjust. Seriously though, unless the scent is bad I think its the last item of concern.

I've thought the same thing some days. I usually take along 3 or 4 different scent combinations of corn and always dye one pink. Over the years it almost seems as though the corn color has more of an effect on the catch rate than switching between the different scents. When useing gel scents on the lure and dodger I often wonder if scenting the corn is really that necessary as the gel scent probably overrides and lasts longer than what's on the corn kernal.

Have any of you tried hanging bonefide scent dispensers off your downrigger? Opinion of effectiveness?
