I have a 50# endura max trolling motor (transom mount) on my lund WC14.

Plan on adding a lawrance Elite 7 HDI with a bonus I will be getting soon. Will it cause interferrence on the electronics to run the troller off the same battery? OR do I need to run a sperate one?

With the small boat space is at a premium so I would rather not....then again...If I gotta do it...I gotta do it.

Thanks for helping with my rookie questions (hence te name)t4luil

as long as your boat is properly grounded I see no problem with that. I run all kinds of electrical stuff including a tr-1 auto pilot and 3 transducers and most everything all ready has filters to help against that, and a lot of guys run the transducer right on the electric trolling motor so I would think you would be safe. dfly

Call me paranoid but I'd never run my trolling motor off my house starting battery. You kind of jumped from asking about electronics to "troller" so I'm a little unclear what your intention is. Also, I would not recommend running your sonar off your electric trolling motor battery. Sonars are very touchy with voltage. Mid day, a trolling motor will have sufficiently drained the battery to affect the accuracy of your finder.

sorry if I was unclear...I am running a elect trolling motor..and was asking if I can run my intended electronics purchase off the same battery or do I need a seperate.

I was just in the garage looking at my boat...with the split seat on my WC14..I wonder if I could rig a hinged top on both the seats to conceal a battery in each so there is no space lost....granted there will be extra money for two deep cycles.

Thanks for the input Dragonfly and Super D.

Do those seats have built in flotation ? If they do I woundn't touch it. I think I would be inclined to pick up a lawn mower battery for the depth sounder and tuck it in the back. Never hurts to have extra anything.

You didn't mention whether you have an outboard and whether it is electric start. As SuperD indicated, I would be hesitant to use my starter battery for my trolling motor...time to go, click, click, click. If no outboard or if it's a pull start, no worries. I have used one of the little gel cell 12 volt batteries for my fish finder when ice fishing and get several days use between charges.

Sorry about that...just a pull start two stroke. I'm planning on a group 27 deep cycle for the troller...and a group 24 deep cycle for the finder...overkill for the finder...but I can use it for back up if the 27 goes down when the fish start biting :)

What's nice about electronics is most are not a big battery drains until you start adding stereo systems with amplifiers. I'm not running an electric trolling motor but I do run my downriggers on a separate battery & my electronics on my main. The items that draws the most power to operate will stay isolated to its own dedicated battery.

On my previous boat, I had was picking up interference on my Fish Finder when running my MinnKota Trolling Motor off of the same battery. The Maximizer digital technology MinnKota encorporates in their motors would cause my FF to blank out. It may not be an issue with your set-up but it's something to be aware of. I cured it by buying a seperate battery for the Fish Finder at Cabela's like autorick mentioned.

Yep that seals it...Im going seperate..My trolling motor is a 50# MinKota Endura "Max" with the maximizer. My plan is for a group 27 DC for the trolling motor..and a group 24 for the Elite 7 HDI. the 4 is kinda overkill for the Lawrance...but it will be a good back up if I run out of juice on the 27 during a looong troll.
Thanks for all the input guys....Really apreciate it.
