any shimano guys know if you can swap out parts from the cardiff line of reels? thinking about picking up a couple used 301's, but i'd like to be able to convert them into clicker reels. wondering if the 401 parts can be used in a 301? i'm an abu guy and love the fact that i can swap parts basically between all the reels. even built up a monster 5601 that i cannot cast!!! i've never owned a shimano baitcaster so i know nothing about them. thanks.

I had some smaller Cardiffs and was told that there was no way to add clickers to them. I hence got rid of those reals. Lots of Tica lovers out there but I'm dtill an Abu Garcia guy to the core.

I'm not sure about the Shimano reels either. Never owned one. I have 2 Ticas and 2 Okumas for my koke rods. I have been very happy with the Okumas. But I could have gone a touch smaller. I have the Okuma Convector 15 linecounter. Very good clicker too. There is one size smaller and the pricing is very reasonable. thumbsup

BlueBack You may be able to get a parts list and see if the partr #s are the same reel to reel. I mostly use Penn peers (9,109,&209s) several parts are the same even in the different sizes. golucky

i got a wild hair about the shimano cardiffs and calcuttas but have come to my senses...for now. ha ha. i too am abu, through and through. just going to install clickers/sideplates on a couple extra 5501 c3's ive got laying around.

I have two, like new Shimano Cardiff 400 series with left hand retrieve. Both have clockers on them. I would be willing to sell both if your interested. Send me a pm and I can make you a decent deal.
