The hoochie leader thread got me thinking about how I attach my terminal gear (so far mainly just wedding rings and hoochies) to my dodger. I started tying my own rigs and have add a barrel swivel at the end for easy attachment to the dodger. I thought this was a slick idea to make setting up easy thumbsup

Now I'm wondering if having two swivels / snap locks in a row would take away the action of the dodger. As I mentioned on the hoochie leader thread I need to pay more attention to how the dodger is effecting the lure as I lower next year. Was not doing that last season.

I attached a photo of the rig in case my explanation did not work. Any feedback?

When I first started koke fishing, I used a swivel at the end of my leaders, half because I didn't trust the overhand loop knots. Now for speed, I tend to just use the loop knot for my attachment to the dodger.

Loop only thumbsup

The second barrel swivel doesn't really serve a good function other than a sense of security. I'm with SuperD on the loop and Kokaholic is right on about you don't know how long your leader is going to be. The loop is used on all my rigs that are trailing behind my dodgers. Some lures that have action will be a longer leader than hoochies.

I used to get all caught up in using high quality swivels and such but that got old and expensive (ie Sampo U.S. made ball bearing etc) so all I've done the last couple of years is a surgeon's loop for all my setups in 10lb or 12 lb later in the year, Yozuri is my favorite line for leader and main line. Here's a link to the Surgeons knot if you scroll down on this page:

Everybody will have their favorite knot of course and it comes down to what you are comfortable with. The kids can easily tie the surgeon's knot and that is another reason I like it.

Another great thread forming and I always enjoy reading different opinions and techniques.

I'm with Bluknight except I use a snap swivel. The open snap swivel aids in tackle storage as it offers a simple method to secure it in foam. Open loop or swivel make little to no difference immediately behind a dodger/flasher. Pre tied leaders have always become a tangled mess for me until I went to my homemade lure dispenser two winters ago.

Silver bullets, I hope Bduck answered your question. If not, let us know and we can go into further detail.

Smoke, I like the way that you have set that foam rig holder set up under your storage lid. I have two storage areas like that and I think I might try something like that. Look forward to seeing your set up some time.

Referring to the tieing loop knot, you mentioned...

"Mainly because I don't know how long my leader is going to be"

Are you implying you don't tie up leaders until your on the water and figure out what length to go with? Do you store your hoochies naked and carry leaders with pre-tied hooks and cut the leaders to length each time out?

I pre-tie mine with the smallest barrel swivel I can get usally 8 to 12 inches of line sometimes shorter depending what I'm tieing up. If I need to go longer no problem extra line ect ect, shorter cut to length and retie. Some days you can get by without any dodgers, just mainline smallest ducuo(SP)snap, barrel and a thing, great time to be on the water. fish on

Silver bullets, Yes I do, But then I am in a little diffrent situation than most where I am on the staff With RMT. I get my stuff in bulk.thumbsup

I tie all my hoochies at 8-9 inches and use a duo-lok to connect to the dodger and it does not seem to hurt the hoochie action at all.

Right or wrong last year I used a snap swivle on my line and just the small snap on the lure.
I think this is the fastest way to change either dodger or lure or both.
With my old fingers its hard to tie knots on a table at home!
