Fished Timothy expecting to catch trout and ended up catching 40 kokanee. None of them had any size worth talking about, but sure had fun fishing and trying different methods. Between 10 and 20 feet was the ticket. And anything in pink. Spin glows, hoohies, wedding rings..you name it, if it was pink you hooked up and corn soaked in tuna oil.

So why won't the kokanee grow in Timothy?

I think they are very overpopulated. We fished it last year and caught lots of small ones. Could use some heavy pressure and no catch and release for a few years IMHO. I would love for it to produce some nice kokes now and then to have a lake closer to home.

Good point look at Detroit Res only thing in it is stock trout.Land locked Chinook just about gone really don't exsist any more we were hooking fish in the 10 lb range/ no Kokanee to speak of really close to a metropilitan area a great Res fantastic boat ramps/ the same with camping and only thing are planter 9 inch trout

New to Kokanee fishing and to Timothy Lake. Going out for our first attempt this Saturday 7/28. Any tips on where to start trolling, what parts of the lake
are they holding in? Plan to arrive 6am and make a day of it. Any and all tips welcome, thanks. FisherKate

We fished the deep water from the dam out towards the middle of the lake. I can't remember off the top of my head how fast we were trolling. I think we mainly fished 60'. I would think that they would be schooled up and be able to see them on the FF and just fish at that depth. We did the best with small kok-a-nuts behind the 4.5" UV pink sling blades. There are lots of very small kokes there so I would start with different types of lures (all tipped with white corn or Berkley gulp pink maggots of course) on each rod in the usual "kokanee colors" of pink or orange and let the fish tell you what they want. I like starting at 1.4 mph and doing an "s" pattern and paying attention to which side of the boat is hooking the most fish and adjusting your speed acordingly. Once you get an idea of what they want, stay on them until it changes then start changing again. Good luck.

Pink was the hot color when we went. We were around 20 feet. Corn with tuna oil was the ticket. Anywhere in the 50 foot area was best. All were small.

We may try to sneak out for a little Saturday. Not sure if we can but will try. If you see a blue Lund swing in and say hi. We are more than happy to help out fellow koke addicts.

I've fished there quite a few times and found them on top (gotta dig through the trout) and 40' on the south side of the dam trolling to the middle. Wedding rings in hot colors did best with corn and a rainbow lake troll. They didn't want anything to do with the dodgers for the most part. Try keeping a rapala out the back as well. I've got reports of 10lb plus trout. And please o please everybody take your limit of the little buggers.

Thanks for all the tips everyone. We're in a 16' aluminum with blue Fisher Avenger on the side. I'll see you on the Lake! FisherKate

If everything works for us will be out there on Saturday. Just look for the boat painted camo. My son did that for me when he was 16. It's been 10 years now with that paint scheme.

We made it, but it was late morning before we got on the lake. We did pick up two "little" kokes. In our defense, this was our first time out with this our very first boat and our first time on Timothy. But I think we learned alot about the lake. Motored around with the fish finder and found the deep channel and followed it up the lake from the dam. Didn't see many fish until
6pm. FisherKate
