Does anybody make an automatic trolling plate besides Trol A Matic? I can't find an automatic trolling plate that isn't plastic.

Trolling Plates

When I first outfitted my boat this last spring, I went to Cabela's and they have a metal trolling plate and it really wasn't to badly priced if that is possible statement anymore. 1966, gas was 32 cents and an average house was $3.599.
When I was fishing this summer and my electric trolling motor was in the hospital, I was using a sea anchore and I was pleasantly suprised how well it worked on keeping me around 1.5 miles per hour. and I paid about $40 or so for it.101chromefish101101chromefish101

trolling plates

I have installed the Happy troller on many boats. they hold up well. Look on E bayhttp://sporting-goods.shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=trolling+plates&_sacat=14104&_odkw=&_osacat=14104&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313

I didn't see any at Cabelas that were automatic and metal. I've found a couple sources but now just have to find out if it will fit the outdrive model I need. The Volvo/Penta have the weirdest cavitation plates I've ever seen.

I've had a Happy Troller on my 50 horse Johnson for over six years and it has worked great.A broken trip cord is the only trouble I've had. The unit cost 70 or 80 bucks new,I guess they still sell them. The Happy Troller was a great investment and much cheaper than a kicker.thumbsup Woops Super D , I didn't see the automatic part. But it's exciting to hang over the transom and pulling the trip cord as you slowly speed up.

I guess "automatic" wasn't descriptive enough. No pull cord required, aka spring loaded so it goes up on its own at speed and drops at idle or trolling speed.
