I started using a lure 10 or 12 years ago made by scotty called a "hoochie devil" It was a plastic bill that imparted action to a hoochie for salmon fishing. They worked great, then disapeared. Flash forward two years and there they were, repacked and sold by pro-troll. We used them for another year or two, started to see none on shelves.Called company, they were discontinuing them due to poor sales after buying out scotty on them. We bought lots of them in various colors at this point through the mail. Still have lots, still works great. Flash forward again to about 4 years ago, saw some pee- wee hoochies at west marine in the bargain bin and was surely interested in them. We've had good luck with them in Lake Shasta a couple of years ago and more recently in Summit Lake in Thurston Cty.My question is how are you using them? How far back from dodgers are you setting them as too close to dodger may kill action of bill? Any info would help. Thanks, Bob R

I think what you a referring to is the Shasta Tackle "Wiggle Hoochie"

I love running these 18-24" behind a Sling Blade style dodger. You can run them longer for a more wide sweeping "hunting" action as well. They also have the bigger ones that I run by themselves for big Lakers and Salmon in the salt.

I used them a lot last summer. The micros work well when big presentations aren't getting hit. I made my own with some glow beads on either side. I just picked up some at the Portland show from Crystal Basin Tackle. They have pre tied and complete micros spinners. I am partial to the pink or the glow which is a greenish white.

I also picked up a huge load of stuff from FWG (fishing with Gary). Really nice guy. Chatted with him for a bit then loaded up.

I use the mini hoochies but don't use the blade and put them 8'' behind the dodger with a glo bead in front pretied with a kokanee creek tackle dbl hook with a glo bead in between the 2 hooks this is the combination I used that was red hot at odell last year. dfly

i will shoot some picks of the ones i just bought and if i can find some from last year i will take some pics of them too.. (in the morning)

I appreciate all the rapid responses, You are right, I forgot the name being "wiggle hoochie" vs. pee-wee.I want to swap some bodies out with appropiate size U.V. hoochies, are these rated "mini-hoochie" or is there a diff. size more appropiate? Any idea as to good brands available off shelf with good U.V. output? Thanks for info on leader length, my thought are also along those lines, longer leaders tend to keep the action from being deadened by the dodger unlike the straight "pee-wee" which needs that 8 inch or so distance. I've actually had my most consistent bites on reg. dodgers that are hammered silver or chrome vs. various colors of slingblades as a general rule, the small flashers I bought from pro-troll with the little fin and the "e-chip"have been useless for us, although the large pro-troll flasher with the chip (no fin)has worked very well at low-light times when used side by side with identical set-up with no chip on flasher and identical baits and divers for big salmon in the salt. Rinsing with fresh water right after fishing is done for the day to avoid seizing up the e-chip is a must. Bob R

Yeah, I bought some of those plastic e-chip dodgers couple years ago. Never caught anything on em.

Mharri333 mentioned crystal basin above. I picked up a couple of their tear drop dodgers. They are unique but I love them. They are smaller then most at about two inches and impart a small action.
I found on wickiup last year that they worked great with a wiggle hoochie or a Paulina peak micro!

As far as the wiggle hoochie itself. Some will disagree with me but I've had great success with them when the fish are aggressive.
Seems like they slam it harder too. But that could just be me.
I even bought a larger version of the wiggle hoochie last year for springer fishing and had a takedown that didn't stick. We didn't have much of a run on the willamette last year so don't have much more feed back.

Dragonfly,
Thanks for the reply and the good pic of the mini. It's also good to have the leader length also. I've had so so results with regular hoochies but maybe I've had the leader too long - about 24 ".

24" is pretty long, with the avergae size of dodger people use for kokanee your dodger will impart almost no action onto the lure

That's why the wiggle hoochie, the bill gives it great action with longer leader between dodger and lure. Bob R

this is what I have found fishing greenpeter and odel the further away from the dodger the lure is the fewer take downs compared to what I am using now which is 8 to 10'' max', ' 6'' was too short. and it is the difference between 10-20 fish between my wife and I with the over 12'' leaders, to us limiting out with the 8', 'this is using mini hoochies, spinner beads and others with no action on there own. I didn't have as good of luck or the consistently with wiggle hoochies or apex with long leaders, but like I said this is my experience. dfly

I'll do a side by side comparison in the spring between pee-wee hoochies on a shorter leader (8" to 10") and wiggle hoochies on a longer leader (1 1/2' to 2') and let you know results. Colors and dodgers will be identical. Have to wait 'till spring for Summit Lake, but maybe we can try it at American if this rain and cold weather lets up a bit.I'll post results. I know personally I've had better luck with wiggles, (even with the short leaders on pee-wees) but Dragonfly has a LOT more experience with kokes then I do. Bob R

I am a relative newcomer to koke fishing, but did very well last year. I did hit 'dry' spells when I couldn't get a bit. Now that I have some more technical information I should be able to improve upon those times. I too am going to do some experiments. Thanks so much guys.
