Currently I have a lowrance XC67 that seems to do a good job of basic depth/ fish finder and temp. I have considered adding speed and possibly GPS. This is for a 20' Hewescraft primarily used for lakes and some river fishing. What suggestions would folks suggest. Don't mind paying for usable function, but not interested in multiple bells and whistles.

thanks

Carl

if you are using it for the lake maps you can't beat Garmin's coverage so no mater which one you go with make sure it has the lakes you use, other wise it will just be a yellow screen with your tracks running through it. dfly

I like the Humminbird 1198si. It has more stuff than most people need but with a good map chip you get really nice detail and can control the MinnKota I-Pilots. I have the touch screen Garmin as well, which is cheaper, but I like the big HB.

With all the new technology out there, I was hoping for some meaty responses to this one. There seems to be so many other functions that can be linked with our electronics such as fuel management and trolling motor guidance that it would be great to discuss and hopefully all of us learn something.

I've been using a Lowrance touch 9 on the dash this year and REALLY like it. In fact about to replace the HD7 gen 2 on the bow.
Things I like:
touch screen - extremely fast
Flexibility - Very customizable screen view.
visibility - very bright screen.
Expensive but worth it

I've got a question about the touch screens. I can't get finger prints off my screens now and they aren't being touched as a designed use. How are these new finders for touching the screen with fingers covered in pro cure?

Have not tried different "pointers" with the Lowrance but with Garmin touch screens on motorcycle a lead pencil with eraser works good. There are also pens out there that have a soft point designed for use on iPad.
