I am heading that way to chase Macks and Burbot. Does any one have any reports on current fishing conditions and where the Macks are located. I am after the smaller ones. Got my trophy last year.

Thanks

Not sure if people are putting the hurt on 'em up north, but it's been pretty slow for pups down south. I'm marking a lot, mostly between 50-80ft on main channel points, but they are tight lipped. I've observed the same thing over the last couple of years, but it seems later this year. Water temps are still around 60F down here, which likely has something to do with it. A little bit of cooling and it could open-up. I had some great days last fall, from October through Thanksgiving. I've been trying a lot of different gear, but still stand by the 3-inch Gulp minnows when it comes to pups. Rainbow fishing has been good, thankfully! Same areas and gear, just shallower.

I haven't tried for burbot this fall, but definitely go up north for those. Areas like Holmes Crossing, Buckboard, Lost Dog, or Firehole host the highest densities. The lake still has a thermocline, so if you get below 35-40ft, you might see some better success. Glow tubes, jigging spoons, and jigging shad raps tipped with bait will work. I saw a report fishley had on BFT and he got into some burbot but stated they were smaller than he hoped for. You might find more info there. Good luck, Ryno

Don't know and don't really care about the Burbot.

Tried several places in early October for Macs and all we could pick up were the pups from Sheep Creek in Utah up to Squaw Hollow in Wyoming. Stuck to using jointed brown trout Rapala but the success was sporadic at best. A few of my friends are picking up some smaller Macs from the Lucerne "RODEO" but the entire bite this year seems to be OFF.

We also tried the rainbows and couldn't keep the small ones off the lures. After we got home, we learned of the UT DWR recently planting several hundred thousand 10-12 inchers. I think they are trying to fatten up some of the Macs????

Catch those Burbot! After reading about them (never having seen one), it seems like every Koke fisherman ought to be ridding the lakes of those things.

lol yep you would think so but they dont. and they will be the first one's pissing and moaning.

well how did you do in the dead sea? fishing has been way slow up at FG.

1 20 " mackinaw was the 2 day score. I spent more time being kicked around by the wind than anything else. A friend of mine that was going had a family emergency so I made a go of it on my own. Sad to say my new to me / used Bayliner was a lot of boat for one person to handle in the wind. I got fed up and left on Sat evening.101duh101

Hey Fish, not sure if I've met you yet, if not I probably will. Would also like to get a pm report on the lings and macs at the north end. That's where we hang out. I typically don't go up after the kokes shut down, but some of us are thinking about getting after the burbot and macs through the fall and then through the ice. Some idea of good areas would be helpful, and appreciated. Thanks

tell ya what go check out my post's on bft then if you have any question's send me a pm! that may help both of us! sorry just lazy as hell and hate writeing the same thing's about ling and baby laker's over and over. and if you cant tell I dont have a english degree!but would love to help the public kill ling no matter what it take's!

A whole new fishing season. I like that. Whats with this crazy but teasing weather we are having? I'm still pulling the boat out. Afraid if I venture to far from home such as to the gorge, I might hung up in the storm of the century.

sure would be nice to see some of these guy's that take koke's from the gorge come target ling sure couldnt hurt if they want them big 5-6lb koke's!ya the weather is a little off but just wait we will have a winter soon!

Fish,
You write "check out my post on bft" what and where is "bft" I would like to read what you have to say on catching the ling under the ice. I understand not wanting to repeat, I just can't figure the bft reference. Thanks, bwhite
