Will you just switch over to next years crop now?
Ice fish for Kokes all winter?
Wait until next spring?

The lake I fish for kokanee is a high elevation lake. We normally target them up there into mid September. When the spawners outnumber the keepers we call it a season. The lake is closed during the winter months, and even if it was open your looking at a 10 mile trek in by either snowshoes, cross-country skis, or snowmobile. Then, if you make it up there, you'd have to shovel around 8' of snow off the ice.

I work on lures during the winter...thumbsup

I can't wait for ice fishing. I pulled up on a construction site this morning and there were 5 or 6 pickup trucks parked there. I knew it was an early ice fishing convention. Sure enough that was the topic of conversation. When will it freeze so we can go have some fun! thumbsup

I am considering another trip around the 1st of September but there are a couple of problems. 1. The reservoir will be drawn down so far that it will be a nearly 50 mile boat ride one way because the upper lake ramps will be high and dry. 2. The steelhead are here and the numbers are breaking records.

So I either spend gas money for a 100 round trip road miles plus another 100 miles round trip in a 2 ton boat to catch kokanee that may not be edible or I launch the boat 10 minutes from my house and catch fresh A-run steelies within 4 miles from my front door. Hmm...now that I see it in black and white it seems like a no-brainer. But I got some really cool untested kokanee stuff I wanna try!

I've never ice fished, but would love to try it sometime...especially for kokanee! I've read reports and seen some great pictures of your ice fishing adventures from years past MMM, and will be looking forward to seeing more this winter. thumbsup

I always wait till spring when I know I can take the shrink wrap off the boat and any snow that gets in it will usually melt within a day. Besides it takes all winter to save enough money to make the repairs required from the previous season of kok fishing at the gorge.

March-May / Macks, Rainbows and German Browns
June - September / Kokanee anywhere, everywhere I can get to them.
2009 to much work, 2010, I plan to be gonefishng.

Hurray up spring!

We catch kokes through the ice on the smaller impoundments and considdering ice or no ice, why would anyone really stop chasing them. If they're anything like me, they don't miss too many meals!
